Slow moving spy story involving two time periods and the search for official documents that would turn Hong Kong over to the Brits totally and completely. I'm not keen on the literary technique of jumping back and forth in time to tell a story - I'm much more a linear kind of guy. Another issue I had was that none of the major characters were very likable. Another issue I had was that none of the major characters were very likable. Lindsey, the hero of our tale, is a James Bond type who is "retired" due to a major knee injury, though he still has a very high opinion of himself. Suzette, who goes from suspect to hero's squeeze, is majorly phony throughout. And Nathan, the boy who watches his family of missionaries get murdered, understandably turns in on himself and has trust issues. I had a difficult time caring what was happening. The book finally opened up and became interesting to me during the final seventy pages.
