We used this excellent guide as we walked Boston's Freedom Trail and visited everything on the trail. It gives important details about the revolutionary sites we visited, but some really fun details, as well. It really made our two days plus more enjoyable and educational.

I read the Kindle edition - it is very interactive and Gladstone clearly knows his subject. If the Freedom Trail is in your plans for your trip to Boston - and it should be - get this book. The author lists and discusses every stop on the trail, and also notes places near by certain stops that might be of interest. He even recommends several historic restaurants - we went to one of them, Warren's Tavern (an easy walk - downhill - from the Bunker Hill Monument), and loved it. My only problem is that I had trouble getting the Kindle connected to wi-fi while walking on the streets of Boston, so during the walk itself it was not as useful as a print edition would have been. My eyes are bad and small print is not for me, however, so I made do with the Kindle version, which, to reiterate is GREAT in your planning stages.

Freedom Trail Boston has just the right mix of content to make for a terrific tour of Boston's Freedom Trail. All of the stops have descriptions and pictures, but also the historical context that weaves through book, giving a quick telling of the big story - how Boston played such a critical role in the American Revolution. With many links and the ability to skip around, you don't need a linear reading of this material. Fantastic! Perfect for a self-guided tour of the Freedom Trail. Without this guide I would have missed the narrowest house across from the entrance to the Copp's Hill burial ground and the wonderful Shaw memorial. I purchased the soft-cover version from Amazon and was able to download the Kindle version to my phone which showed us exactly where we were. Very helpful and so informative!

Really good guide with background/contextual history. Worthwhile for anyone visiting this fascinating place. Followed author's suggestion to take a free National Park Service tour, and it was absolutely worthwhile. Understanding the non-Official stops (which you can't help but pass as you walk through Boston), really helped make our visit fun. Good guide.
