This book uncovers the biggest scientific fraud of our age. It tells the fascinating and frequently astounding story of how the massive enterprise to restructure the genetic core of the world's food supply came into being, how it advanced by consistently violating the protocols of science, and how for more than three decades, hundreds of eminent biologists and esteemed institutions have systematically contorted the truth in order to conceal the unique risks of its products-and get them onto our dinner plates. Altered Genes, Twisted Truth provides a graphic account of how this elaborate fraud was crafted and how it not only deceived the general public, but Bill Clinton, Bill Gates, Barack Obama and a host of other astute and influential individuals as well. The book also exposes how the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) was induced to become a key accomplice--and how it has broken the law and repeatedly lied in order to usher genetically engineered foods onto the market without the safety testing that's required by federal statute. As a result, for fifteen years America's families have been regularly ingesting a group of novel products that the FDA's own scientific staff had previously determined to be unduly hazardous to human health. By the time this gripping story comes to a close, it will be clear that the degradation of science it documents has not only been unsavory but unprecedented--and that in no other instance have so many scientists so seriously subverted the standards they were trained to uphold, misled so many people, and imposed such magnitude of risk on both human health and the health of the environment.

One of the most important issues we face is the subversion of our food supply by biotech and agri-business. This book examines the legal side of the problem, including the historic complicity of our government in eradicating consumers' rights. Well-written and impeccably researched, it's a wonderful addition to any library. Far from being depressing, however, the book will remind readers of the power we have as citizens, voters and thinkers.

The consensus of real scientists is that genetic engineering is fraught with novel hazards and potentially catastrophic risks. The FDA's 1990s GRAS designation was a political ploy to avoid legal requirements for safety that were impossible to achieve. Today's resistance to labeling is to avoid legal accountability for damage traceable to eating GMO food. And don't think health isn't already being affected. There was more than one close calls that was only averted due to lucky happenstance of independent testers finding potentially catastrophic disasters just days before a food was scheduled to be released. However, those close calls need to be balanced against the foods released without any significant testing, whose cursory documentation have resulted in the FDA's own experts protesting their release. Read this book.... but be prepared to not ever shop in a standard grocery store again, or to eat out. The potential repercussions for not just yourself, but your children and grandchildren, from eating some of this "food" is too horrible.

The meta issue is the conflicts between integrity vs. agenda, aka truth & science v. politics & power. This is a reality in every business and in every industry. It always has been, and always will be. Moreover, just as generals used to shoot the "scapegoat" who brought bad news, so do today's power brokers prefer to vilify any who speak a truth that conflicts with a vision that may be nothing more than magical thinking. Our challenge is to speak the truth in a way that effects beneficial change and not get shot.

This is a thorough and convincing, evidential indictment of not only companies like Monsanto, but of the laughable, for-hire science cited in support of the nutritional and ecological safety of GMO's, as well as our glaringly corrupt regulatory system and government in general; its impotence and dereliction in matters of public duty and protection. Take it to the beach!

I think our scientific and humanitarian advances are incredible, and believe we have the ability to sustain our environment and biodiversity. However I challenge everyone to read this book! You may want to start with chapter 14 and, in my opinion, the author does a succinct job of demonstrating his disturbing concluding arguments, as irrefutable. I recommend that if you want to get your feet wet on this subject, go to Amazon Video, Netflix, or whatever, and watch the movie 'GMO OMG'.

One thing that is abundantly clear from his narrative is that the science is far from settled.

This book is an amazingly descriptive look at the deceptions of the biotech industries. Very thoroughly researched and thought out, as well as extremely enlightening to a world that is kept secret.

We don't need these products they are ruining our planet, increasing the use of pesticides, and herbicides. Killing off natural flora and fauna and creating a group of super weeds. They do not increase yields and tend to be nutritionally inferior to unadulterated crops. Have you seen interstellar, this is what will happen if all our crops continue to be genetically modified so as to have only 1 type of plant , did you know that there were hundreds of different potatoes, we only see a few in supermarkets. Support your local farmers eat organic and avoid all the processed foods that are heavily laden with GMOS , that's why they want you to believe it's safe so they can make money off you. Now and when you develop health problems down the line since hey how can you prove it was the food. Steven Druker wrote an intelligent and highly detailed book about the deception that producers and advocates for GMOS have duped us into believing they have our best interests at heart.

I found the writing highly repetitive and did not even finished reading the book, because the new information I was receiving per page was rapidly hitting diminishing returns in the last chapters. But when reading non-fiction work I would say that more important than how enjoyable was the reading is how the book changes your beliefs, and this work definitely did: I finally see where some of the con-GMOs are coming from. Having said this, from all the pages I read, I do not remember the author even writing one positive thing about GMOs. This gives me some doubts on how credible and unbiased he is. Maybe there really isn't anything good to say about GMOs but I found this highly improbable. Ah, as a guy with a Biology background who's doing software development I found the analogies and disanalogies between living systems and software systems really interesting.

The chapters on how scientists who dared to question or raise concerns, or publish their research, about the dangers of GMOs are ostracized, loose their teaching positions and research grants , or how journalists are silenced by editors, the total manipulation of the FDA ...it's all overwhelming but so important that it's in print. I encourage anyone concerned about the safety of our food to read this. Thankfully there are summaries of each chapter found at alteredgenestwistedtruth.com/executiv... for reference because this is a book that concerned citizens will want to refer back to, and the chapters are so packed with detailed information it's easy to get overwhelmed. I gave 4 stars only because I wish there would have been a chapter with guidance on what to do as a concerned citizen - it's clear that the lawyers, scientists and journalists who are brave enough to continue to voice questions, concerns, and support objective scientific research need public support and I wish it were more clear in the book what citizens can do to help. It does give me hope that other countries around the world are not as brainwashed as the United States - 38 countries have either completely or partially banned GMO food production and imports, the World Health Organization is conducting critical scientific research proving that GMOs, specifically foods grown with seeds laced with Glyphosate, pose serious health concerns, The International Court of Justice ruled on the side of the EU for banning of US GMO grains....and in June of this year there will be another case brought against Monsanto/Bayer in the US for intentionally misinforming the FDA and the public on the human health dangers of Glyphosate, this time with years worth of internal documents proving their cover-up.

Steven M. Druker is a public-interest attorney who initiated a lawsuit that forced the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to release its files on genetically engineered foods. As a result, the way the agency had covered up the warnings of its own scientists about the risks, lied about the facts, and then allowed those "foods" onto the market in violation of federal law. He has served on food safety panels held by the National Research Council and the FDA, presented lectures at numerous universities, met with government officials throughout the world, and conferred at the White House Executive Offices with a task force of the Council on Environmental Quality. Druker discusses the politicization of science and the Institutionalization of illusion; the expansion of the biotech agenda and the intensification of the politicization; how the facts about a deadly epidemic caused by a genetically engineered food have been consistently obscured; the governmental faud that put GE foods on the market; how food safety officials in Canada, the EU, and other regions also sidestepped science and sound policy; multiple risks accompanied by minimal caution; media accomplices in cover up and deception; oversights, anomalies, and delinquencies; how the research on GE food has failed to show that they're safe and instead confirmed that they should be off the market; the inescapable risks of altering complex information systems, whether electronic or biological; the devolution of scientists into spin docgtors, genetic engineering's most malignant mutation; and abandoning genetic engineering and advancing to safe, sustainable, and sensible modes of farming. This is a frightening book. Nobody wants to find that the products that they eat and depend on for life itself are laced with hideous toxins that have killed pets, sickened and killed humans, caused cancer, and a host of other things right out of the Inferno. The instinct is to push that information, ward it off, deny it holds and can hold any validity, a very human thing to do. The instinct is to sneer at that information and remind people of the story of Chicken Little, who cried, "The sky is falling!," scaring everybody for no good reason. But there is good reason. The sky, metaphorically speaking, has fallen, and the fallout has already entered our bodies and those of our children, our pets, and our farm and work animals, doing endless mischief which, in many cases, as altered genes in our food take up residence in our DNA, will continue for decades, even centuries, if not millennia, spreading Satan's largesse of misery and sickness and death for all. For your own sakes, and those of your children and later descendants, please read this book and see what you are risking from lack of good information on this evil, and what your descendants are likely to suffer from it, as well.

Great book. Challenging. I find this whole thing unsettling and as the author states, in searching for facts everything is so obfuscated by so many layers that no wonder it's tough to get good, clean answers. If this is legitimate then I'm going to steer clear until this collapses in on itself. That can't take long according to Druker's facts. I doubt anyone will pay for the damage caused. If I'm wrong then I just look silly. I can deal with that.

I recommend this book to everyone. Well-researched and highly informative of how corrupted the food supply really is with GM food. Statistics in the media say that 1/2 of farming in America is now host to GM crops. I only hope that more Americans will read this book and take action to compel their legislators to enact labelling requirements on these experimental foods. It seems to be the very least that we can do.

This is a big, heavy, serious read. I put it on the back burner for a while but hope to pick it back up soon. But, I do believe it's a must-read for anyone concerned about the state of our food health and food policy. Actually, it's probably more important to those who are NOT concerned about it, because they SHOULD be. Will update when I complete.

Very well researched and referenced, this should be required reading for Americans and anyone who cares about food security and the future of American agriculture. There are some assumptions (if person X had known fact Y, course of action Z would have been followed) that are pure conjecture, but the well presented facts tell a very important story.
