Great! I first read this book August 29, 2014 and I absolutely loved it. I’ve often thought of reading it again, THEN I ran across it on audible and that settled it. I bought the audio and sat down to enjoy it again. I’ve never really been into alien books, which is strange since I love alien movies. But when I ran across this one in 2014 I decided to give it a chance, and I’m so glad I did. It was sooo magical. I love, love, loved Topper. I love, love, loved Topper. When she first showed up, in the first few pages, she had purple eyes, and hair to match, and like Lacey, she “saw” things. I love witchy kinds of books, and this was a whole town of magical people, ghosts, fairies, trolls and shapeshifters. And the characters were just awesome: Joanna, Samantha, Lacey’s sisters. Jonah, Joseph, Lacy’s cousins. Ivanna and Brice, Lacey’s parents. Theo, the dragon sheriff. Dusty the talking pig. Alfred the centuries old fish. Idan, Frost’s asshole brother. Jones Redman and Alice who got exactly what they deserved and Taar, the alien who died very painfully. I loved it when Lacey turned Frost into a “very fluffy white bunny,” and Taar into a creature the size of an index finger. She had no idea she was dealing with a vicious alien. She thought she had a huge version of Jonah and Joseph’s pet lizard that they’d super-sized, in a spell gone wrong. Taar killed anything in his path so her arguing with him was too funny. She was some kind of magic! Two things were wrong with this book. 1) The author used the word vagina. Yuck, that’s so doctor-ish. And 2) the last part of chapter 9, was repeated. I was ready for the next paragraph and it started reading what it was just read. Weird! There was not any sexual tension to speak of but there was explicit sex. The word damn was used a few times and the F-bomb was used 9 times. This really was a fun and funny read. Update: 11/14/2018 As good as the other 2 times I read it. Great story, great characters and great sex. Can't ask for more.

4 stars I found this story to be very enjoyable. I liked both Lacey and Frost and liked their story very much. Lacey owns an animal shelter in the town of Magic, New Mexico. The whole town in made up of "unusual people" and Lacey is one of those with her magical abilities. Lacey was married to a man she grew up with but he died 3 years ago and she's been alone since. Frost is an alien (with ice powers) that works as a Star Ranger, aka an interplanetary policeman/bounty hunter. Frost has been in 4 stars I found this story to be very enjoyable. Frost is an alien (with ice powers) that works as a Star Ranger, aka an interplanetary policeman/bounty hunter. Frost has been in the job for a while and has made lot so money and is ready to retire. He gets pulled into one last job, to pursue a dangerous criminal, Taar, to a primitive planet while making sure not to expose aliens to the local population. When Taar lands, he heads towards the closest civilization which happens to be Magic and Lacey's house. Taar is a lizard creature and at first, Lacey thinks he's a magical construct made by her twin nephews but soon realizes differently. Thankfully, Lacey's gifts are strong so she's able to protect herself from Taar. Frost shows up to capture Taar but things go a bit wonky when Lacey decides Frost is way too disturbing and makes moves to get him out of her life ASAP. Frost recognizes Lacey as his fated mate and isn't about to be pushed away. He decides to win her and then kidnap her back to his home planet but things don't go exactly as planned when MiB (Men in Black) come around looking to investigate the possibility of aliens after tracking 2 things coming through the atmosphere that had a controlled trajectory. Things get complicated but while this is all happening, Frost and Lacey get closer and quickly fall for each other. Unfortunately, the MiBs aren't the only issue faced by the couple and even once they settle things with the MiBs, some separate third-party interference causes even more problems for Lacey and Frost. Fortunately, Lacey isn't a wimp and she has a wonderful family town that stand with and help her, allowing things to work out in the end and Lacey and Frost to get their HEA. This was a very enjoyable story. I really liked Lacey. She was nice but also strong and does what needs to be done to protect those she cares about. Frost was a very good hero and I liked his character very much. Together, they made a good team/couple...I'm glad things turned out the way they did, even if things went wonky to get there. Overall, this was a very good story that was nicely engaging and I'd recommend it. :)

What a fun book! (audible review) This book was so much fun to listen too. I really liked the alien and the magic going on here. This town was awesome, I want to live there. I liked all the characters, Lacey was hilarious! I liked that the witches didn't have to get scrying mirror and a bunch of herbs and 3 drops of blood to turn someone into a toad or something. It was great. I liked Frost too. He was strong, handsome and could wield some ice. LOL The chemistry between Lacey and Frost was pretty What a fun book! There are some sex scenes which were good. So this is not a rated G book. There was lots of dialogue throughout the entire book. The story line and plot was good. It wasn't a very long book so it was not full of filler moments. The story flowed very well. I am looking forward to the next book in this series. As for the narration, David Brenin did a fantastic job! I will listen to him again for sure. All the women sound like women, everyone gets their own distinct voice and he reads with emotion and has a nice reading voice.

Talk about a quick, simple, fluffy romance that I found enjoyable. Not only is this a sci-fi romance, it's a paranormal one in every sense of the word. In order to enjoy this, you have to suspend all sense of belief, which I did. (view spoiler)[We're talking about an alien falling in love with a witch, who lives in a town called "Magic" that's full of trolls, were-vamps, warlocks, dragons, etc. etc. etc. (hide spoiler)]

So glad I got this book. It was so good. Loved the storyline. Highly recommend this author. I really hope it turns into another series. Please can we have a follow on with Lacey's two sisters, Sam and Joanna. That would be great.

Paranormal meets Science Fiction Romance. Lacey is a witch living in a small town full of paranormal residents. Frost, a Glacian, is a Star Ranger tracking down a lizard like criminal and finds himself in Magic. Frost is going to have to break the rules if he wants to keep Lacey. I like Lacey and Frost and many of the other people from Magic but Jonah & Joseph steal the show! I'm very curious to know who the Director in Black is. This was an entertaining scifi romance where an interstellar bounty hunter goes after a particularly nasty criminal on a backwater world we know as Earth. however, he ends up in a New Mexico town full of supernaturals and people who do magic. So S.E. Smith is one of my all-time favorite writers. There's just something about a writing that pulls you in and never lets go. Also David Brenin he's a phenomenal narrator. I have been hesitant to start the series because Susan stated that this book takes place on Earth. I love all her sci-fi books and since this book only has magic and is based on Earth I don't know what to think. I enjoy a good Sci-Fi romance book and the fact that this book is strictly based on Earth made me a bit weary. So S.E. Smith is one of my all-time favorite writers. But of course I did not need to be worried because she killed this book as she does all her others. Frost is a space Bounty Hunter and he is tasked to bring a serial killer to justice, by death. I love the reaction that Lacey had when she first met Frost. She was not scared or freaked out about him she was just confused on why this person was in her house in the first place. The only issue, will not really an issue, that I had with this story is I have no idea what Frost looks like. The alien that Frost was hunting we get a very detailed description about him but when it comes to Frost we have no idea what he looks like. This book had a lot of action and I'm in love with all of the new characters that we were introduced to. I am very interested in Lacey and her sisters and also and Frost's brother. There is just so many wonderful elements to this story and I wish that it was a bit longer just so we got more detail about the relationship between Lacey and Frost. I am very excited to see how everybody's life turns out and also one of the humans that we meet in this book I want to know if he is going to be brought back in some other capacity or another. Also this book mentions the Goddess and I'm pretty sure I know who that is if the series stays true to all her other series.

I found this book while browsing the Audible Romance Package for scifi. The blurb is a bit misleading in that I expected a straight-up alien kidnapping story, but got something else. Star Ranger (aka intergalactic Bounty Hunter) Frost is ready to retire to help his brother run a business on their home planet when he's given one last assignment; Find escaped convict Taar and bring him back - dead or alive. Taar has stolen a transport and ended up on a primitive planet called Earth. Frost is I found this book while browsing the Audible Romance Package for scifi. He doesn't expect the inhabitants of Magic, New Mexico to be filled with magical creatures of unimaginable power. Lacey Adams is a widow who runs the Touch of Magic animal shelter in Magic. She and the other inhabitants of Magic hide in plain sight, using their magic as they see fit, but never exposing it to outsiders. She doesn't have a choice when two alien species show up. Frost is determined to make her his, but Lacey won't open her heart up again. I really loved how the heroine kept saving herself - and often the hero, too. That was probably my favorite part of the book. Around the 60%-70% mark it kind of went off the rails for a bit, but it came back toward the end. Though it wasn't perfect and some things really bothered me, I enjoyed the story overall. Definitely lighter fare, but fun. I'll be trying more from this author soon.

The town was founded as "a protected place where you can be whoever/whatever you are without hiding", as soon as Europeans started settling the continent, when the early settlers fled hard times (the villagers were gathering kindling and pitchforks). Some of those earlier inhabitants remain, socializing in the graveyard. The town has evolved into a modern-day tourist trap, similar to Kristen Painter's "Nocturn Falls", although Ms Smith didn't develop that aspect. The loose framework allows plenty of opportunity for character development, which Ms Smith uses quite well in this, as well as two following volumes. They were typical well-done frothy fast moving romances with hea's and leading into the next one... that never happened. Ms Smith threw open the framework she built to a plethora of talented authors, and it's now the Kindle World of Magic New Mexico... I read the one my Oasis said was next, and it fit right in... but I hope Ms Smith someday continues with HER characters... ... Originally compiled @my Whistler Reads wordpress blog ...

Too much, just too much. A town full of every mythical and magical being ever thought of - vampires, werewolves, witches, dragons, active ghosts and more. Think of a superhero power and they have it. Teleportation, speaking to the dead, control over the weather, healing abilities, all forms of magical spells. I prefer my stories to stick to one or two types of paranormal and even then there should be some basic rules. Twin boys who can talk to each other telepathically, ok. Who are werewolf / Too much, just too much. A town full of every mythical and magical being ever thought of - vampires, werewolves, witches, dragons, active ghosts and more. Who are werewolf / vampire hybrids. Sure, I guess. Who can shape change to any animal they want (like a mouse to spy), cast spells to make someone grow flowers in their hair.... nope, I just think it moved to the ridiculous. To top that all off, the combined power of the commu ity can creat a space dimensional portal to another galaxy, instantaneous group travel through that portal, all because a baby in the womb has a genetic connection to her alien father? Nope, no more for me.

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers. To view it, click here. I love the magical elements used with the story, and how all of the characters were represented. I know a lot of the paranormal/alien romances have instant love, but I liked that these two characters had time even though it was separate from one another, but time to grow. I didn't mind the idea of Lacey being pregnant, and I also liked that her late husband helped to find her someone else. The husband was questionable though, like you said a spell to keep the woman you loved in love with you? That, I don't approve of, but it did give Lacey the opportunity to look at Frost in a new light. I liked that Frost wasn't the knight in shinning armour that was unstoppable, it gives his character more of a relatability side. Overall I liked the book.

Great beginning to a new series! I couldn't put this book down. From beginning to end I was entranced. I want to be a resident of Magic, New Mexico. The town's population are varied and unique. The characters are great. I look forward to seeing a good amount of them getting their own book. Frost and Lacey's chemistry is off the charts. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a outstanding paranormal romance.

Somewhat disappointing Having read many other books by SE Smith, I was disappointed by this one. The story was short and the characters quite sketchy and under developed. Not one of her best for me.

I loved the romance, adored the characters, and absolutely want to emigrate to the world. The only thing I didn’t like was his brothers actions they were unforgivable and I can’t imagine any way cold blooded murder would ever be ok.

Short fun read,.not a lot of depth or build up of character, but still enjoyable.
