Here is the story of a group of firefighters ready to make the best of a Thanksgiving at the station--but their feast preparations keep being interrupted by various emergency calls. With the firefighters out fighting fires, and the food uncooked back at the station, how will they have a feast? The ending reminds us that we have many people to be thankful for--even if we've never met them! A unique perspective on Thankgiving. THE FIREFIGHTER'S THANKSGIVING follows the firefighters working at Station One on Thanksgiving day. In the end their busy day is celebrated with an embrace of thanksgiving from the community who provides the station with a feast and the warmth of family and friendship evident throughout their station.

I took a tour of a fire station with a bunch of toddlers, my daughters included. And so when my daughter decided she wanted a Thanksgiving book about firefighters I said yes, even though it was January. This book has fun rhymes and tells a compelling story as Lou tries to make Thanksgiving dinner, interrupted of course by the firefighters' primary duty: to help people. My three year old has this book memorized, which is a great compliment to the author. I like how a lot of the pages don't have words--it creates a nice space to talk with your children about what firefighters do.

I really like this, but I think it's a bit too heavy for storytime.

A good story to remind us to do more than just say the words "Thank you." It is important to show thanks too. I like the message, writing, & illustrations. Rhyming text is interspersed with wordless spreads that give the reader an opportunity to talk with kids about what firefighters actually do. Although some of the pictures are kind of scary in their depictions of fire, the illustrations overall are a nice complement to the story. What happens when the firefighters working on Thanksgiving Day keep getting calls while trying to prepare a Thanksgiving dinner? A sweet story!

Used for storytime about Thanksgiving. Firefighters attempt to cook for Thanksgiving, but calls constantly interrupt. The community they help bring them a meal to let them celebrate!

The firefighters are getting ready for Thanksgiving, but a call comes in! They are interrupted. They battle the fire, and return only to be interrupted again. When a fellow firefighter is hurt, will they be able to have Thanksgiving? If you have a little lover of firefighters or fire trucks, this is a must read for Thanksgiving!

A book that demonstrates both the importance of firefighter and the fact that they give up their holidays to help others in need! What a nice way to inform children about the importance and responsibilities of being a professional firemen and the community coming together to make their Thanksgiving special!

My two year old LOVES this book. I have read it at least 4 dozen times. The pictures are great and the rhymes are mostly good. (I hate it when rhymes just don't quite work out...) My one critique is that the words are white in a black box over the pictures. For some reason I'm not a fan of this and would prefer to just see the words on the page, rather than disrupting the pictures.

The rhyming narrative and bold colors of the illustrations combine for a dramatic, yet entertaining story. Every time the firefighters try to start their Thanksgiving dinner preparations, they get a call for help. Our girls enjoyed this story very much.

What an awesome book, and it shows just how hard our firefighters work to protect and serve us. Are these busy firefighters going to have a thanksgiving? If the calls keep coming in it doesn't seem that they will. Great Thanksgiving story.

Not as cute as I had hoped, but Spencer still enjoys anything with firefighters.

I had high hopes for this book. I thought it would give a unique perspective on a Thanksgiving. Instead it was confusing and the black text boxes were distracting.

This book is about firefighters on thanksgiving trying to prepare their dinner but keep getting interrupted by the emergency calls. I would let my students read for fun if they were younger reads.

I just loved this one, and so did the five year-old that I babysit! We loved the story, the pictures, and most of all the feeling of goodness that it left us with.

A nice story about the firefighters who try to cook a feast but can't get it done because they're too busy saving the day. A good reminder to be mindful of those who sacrifice for others.

Good story that accurately (I think) describes the life of a firefighter (or paramedic!) who may not always get to enjoy a traditional holiday. Obviously, this was a hit in our house.
