Such a funny, intriguing and great book. FINALLY, they made a book that doesn't solely focus on Bolivar, Santander, the war on drugs, and FARC. Instead, they made a book that focuses on the tiny nuances of Colombian life. Having lived in Colombia for several years, I can attest to most of it being true. While Colombians can be very sensitive to criticisms of their culture, I've found that Colombians I've lent this book to have been very receptive to it and have loved it. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is planning on moving to Colombia or at least planning to visit and really wants to get to know the country and culture. There are so many gems in this book that it is fun to read from cover to cover, or you can just start in the middle and work your way out. Either way, it is a brilliant book that explains so many of the peccadilloes one might encounter in Colombia. Definitely add it to your travel kit!

What is this book? It purports to be "anthropological" yet just rolls out stereotype after stereotype without claiming a basis of anything more than "watching people on Bogota buses". The cartoons are simply childish and not matched by the text, which far from deep, is not of the same reading age level. So who is the book for? Certainty not me! Equally, the lack of any editorial judgment grates; for example, did the author really mean to say "... three out of five fighters in Simon Bolivar's Spa What is this book? What? Drivel! There are many great books on Colombia. Sorry, but this is not one of them!

Excellent for newcomers to Colombia or anyone who wants to understand Colombia 'in a nutshell.' Picked it up at Panamericana this morning, read it cover to cover, and will be gifting it to my father when he arrives from Canada tomorrow. Well done!

This book describes Colombia in a very unique way, it's fun, colorful, friendly and easy to read. In fact, there are some quotes about my country I did not know, really I enjoyed reading it.

Mixed feelings. It’s a great concept - a short-ish read that covers a broad array of subjects to introduce a country. I’d love to read something like that for every country I visit! In practice though, Kellaway comes across as pretty harsh and condescending toward Colombia and its people. Given that she’s a foreigner, this is makes the book feel rather problematic. This book probably could have been much better with a Colombian author or at least co-author (a Colombian-Swiss illustrator doesn’t Mixed feelings. Having just returned from Colombia and being married to a Colombian lady, I can honestly say this is a must read for anyone who is interested in contemporary Colombian culture. The book has great humor while also having a serious and informative side. Would highly recommend for travelers and locals alike

This was a cute book and quick read with some interesting insights into the country. I wondered whether the stereotyping was a bit offensive but I guess it sold well in Colombia so who am I to decide.
