A well thought out and informative book about how to teach English in Asia. Does a good job splitting the topic up and discussing a child centered approach to learning. Im looking forward to using what I learned here in the classroom.

I own and operate a language school in Japan. This book is required reading for anyone who plans to come and work for me as a teacher. It starts with basic child-centered theories, moves on to practical application, and then finishes with a very helpful list of possible games and activities. This is a must-read for anyone teaching or planning to teach English in an Asian country. I highly recommend it!

Since I am teaching English in Indonesia, it is not ESL, but EFL. Children in Asia are sometimes forced to learn English externally. However, metacognition and the love to learn English are two most important things encouraged internally in active and child-initiated learning. I have got to practice a lot after reading this!

I'm currently using this book for a graduate class on Learner-Centered Teaching. It isn't a bad book, but it isn't right for the course. I'll choose another one next time. This book is mostly a bunch of educational theory that I got more than enough of back in Uni, but the last 10 pages are full of useful activities & games for kids' classes.
