Carolina flees to California, but what she doesn’t know, and will soon learn, is that her fate was sealed before her birth, and it was decided for her to wed Juan Carlos, a Colombian drug lord, as payment for a debt or else her family will die. But then Caroline becomes caught up in a dangerous love affair, with a man by the name of Hector, after Juan Carlos forbid her from seeing him. When things turn deadly, Caroline does what she knows best, run. Will Juan Carlos track Caroline down in St. Louis and drag her back to California to be his bride? Or, will she remain hidden in the hood under an assumed identity and continue to live as Kayla?

I read this book on the suggestion of a really good friend and while the writing was up to par, this particular story just didn't do it for me hence my rating. Let's begin with the characters you have Caroline who is supposed to be 23 years old but she carries herself like a bratty teenager who acts as if she has absolutely no idea that for every decision that she made there would be a detrimental consequence. Let's begin with the characters you have Caroline who is supposed to be 23 years old but she carries herself like a bratty teenager who acts as if she has absolutely no idea that for every decision that she made there would be a detrimental consequence. Now I understand that she was raised by a single father and was subjected to moving from place to place quite often due to his lifestyle but this would in my opinion cause her to have a level of maturity that other women her age wouldn't possess. Her overall going against the grain just for the sake of rebelling just didn't make any sense. I can see doing this when the consequences are detrimental to the person solely but she KNEW that what she was doing would result in Hector's suffering and death and selfishly she still proceeded to do it. Then instead of learning from her mistake she goes and compounds it by running and becoming involved not with just any man but a single father who is the sole provider for his young child. Caroline just didn't endear herself to me at all. Juan Carlos while controlling was exactly what he presented himself to be and for that I could appreciate his character. I think the writing style of the author actually was quite good it was the actions of the main character that made this simply an okay read for me. Miss Kay aka Charles was hilarious. Every woman should have a friend like Miss Kay. She was real and even when it came out that Langston's baby mama was in fact her sister she did not side with her when she was wrong. I really enjoyed the antics and interactions that Miss Kay, Ellis, and even Langston had with Kayla aka Caroline. While I wasn't 100% sold on this story I will be reading part 2 to see if Caroline matures and quite frankly I'm curious to see what if anything Juan Carlos is going to do to her for her THOT behavior!!!

Gangsta This was a very good storyline. It was a different feel from what I'm used to reading. It was very interesting and touched on a subject that is actually real in some cultures. Juan Carlos was the type who got what he wanted. He met his match with Caroline. I want to know how things will play out in part 2.

Different This was a different read from the somewhat "normal" thug love books of today. I gave it a four star rating because it started off really slow on the beginning, then gained momentum as the story progressed. I hope book 2 is a much better read.
