This is the second book in the series, although it is also a stand alone. If you haven't read a book by Joe Dacy, you should know first, they are highly entertaining, you should know secondly, the author always seem to add an underlying conspiracy or two into the books, Welcome to the year 2041, where things are not perfect, when were they ever though? Joe is in a bit of trouble after he hides a pharmaceutical drug called HEBE which was supposed to make you young, of course nothing is at it seems, and Joe is going to find that out the hard way. The author puts a great deal of humor in the book and makes a highly entertaining story that beneath the laughter is also a tragedy of life, greed and power. I recommend grabbing not only the first in this series but the author's other books as well, just remember there is a hidden message in all Joe Dacy's books and one worth looking for.

Joe the Old Man is back, and with him the series that began with The Last Reunion. The author has created a character in Joe that I immediately took to in Book I, and I recommend that potential readers first pick that one up and give it a spin before settling into The Death Panel. The setting is the United States in the near future. Humanity has soldiered onwards but its accumulating blunders have begun to add up; demographic challenges are all but insurmountable. The setting is the United States in the near future. Humanity has soldiered onwards but its accumulating blunders have begun to add up; demographic challenges are all but insurmountable. Under these circumstances, a group of very powerful people have come together to form a plan to “thin the herd” of senior citizens in as discrete a manner as possible. Some call it a necessary evil, but to Joe it is just evil. I love the concept of senior citizen versus Masters of the Universe, and I believe that it has been very well executed by the author. Despite the price-tag, this is no short story, but a novella instead. The action builds continuously, and I found myself enjoying the more “detective novel” feeling to the Death Panel. I am now quite certain that the characters and concept are giving birth to a very enjoyable series, one that I’ll be accompanying with pleasure over the foreseeable future.
