This is a simple and 'perspective-giving' book by Ian Goldin. The author explains in very effective and short manner about meaning of 'development' and how it has evolved over decades. A thing to note here is that it is the older edition. It is now available as Development: A Very Short Introduction and the newer edition is recommended instead.
