I enjoy fantasy, but admittedly I don't read much of it anymore. And because so much of my recent reading has been firmly rooted in reality (historical fiction), I started this book not really knowing what to expect. What I read of the plot in the summary was intriguing enough to make me pick it up, but with fantasy you never really know what you're getting until you are into the story since the "rules" of fantasy can truly be whatever the author wants them to be. I needn't have worried. The Plot I enjoy fantasy, but admittedly I don't read much of it anymore. I needn't have worried. The Plot -- The story for the story's sake is a wonderful tale, moving along at a wonderful pace. There are places in the story where the plot pauses so that Naheli can wrestle with her thoughts and feelings, and some readers might be derailed by this. However, these components are what make the prose breathtakingly beautiful. More on that later. There is nothing about this book that is predictable. It had me guessing to the very end. Just be prepared for a lot of surprises. The Prose -- In a word, breathtaking. I usually pay a lot of attention to an author's writing style, but to be honest, I have no idea what Scholz's style is because I was reading through the words into the heart and soul of the book so paid no attention! It could have been full of grammatical errors and sentence fragments for all I know (it wasn't), because Scholz's writing was so living and real and "felt" onto the page that how the words got there really didn't matter much. The biggest success of the book was Naheli herself. I empathized with her throughout the entire book because her thoughts and feelings flowed through so wonderfully. The progression of how she grew and changed throughout the book was authentic, complex, and thoroughly drawn. I recommend this book for readers who enjoy a good story alongside their rich, complex characters.

We follow Naheli over five days prior to her sacrifice to an ocean Goddess. Set in a beautiful world, full of glass towers, non- Empaths who see the world full of colour, laughter and feeling. Paired with the emotionless world of the controlling Empaths, brings a new and exciting fantasy world to life. "The ocean pressed against the darkened glass walls and the candlelight lay on the floor like pools of golden water the depth of which was immeasurable." I loved the writing of the two different worlds and Naheli encounters, and how her character development was written! Naheli isn't the only great character in this epic story. We meet the beautifully written Thilkhan who warms your heart, with this poetry and books. He even has a pet egg called Eggie! We also meet some darker more foreboding characters who give me "Mistborn trilogy" vibes. Rabea has written all characters perfectly! There are no shortfalls whether it's a main character or a small side character! During the countdown to the sacrifice, Naheli struggles to find what was missing in her life, and how to truly fulfil her purpose as the sacrifice to save a nation. For me the thing that stopped me from giving this a a full 5/5 was a small plot point of Naheli too-ing and fro-ing over certain decisions that got repetitive in the middle section of the book. That said Naheli's Sacrifice was a great read and i highly recommend it! I'm surprised not more people have read it, and it deserves a lot more recognition!

I received this book as a free copy and it has been on my reading wait list for a while cause little did i realise how a 1st book by a brand new author would blow me away. Naheli's sacrifice did this from its first four opening lines which were the rules for the sacrifice, an idea so totally new and scary and captivating, urging me to read on. Consequently i ended up reading up to 60% of the book right through the night as i just could not put this book down. The glass spire and its emotionless empaths and how they related to one another put me in mind of the awesome book by Margaret Atwood, A Handmaid's Tale but this book goes even further in exploring during the countdown to Naheli's sacrifice what exactly she was missing from life and what had been wiped out of her memories, namely colour, song, laughter and most importantly love! She struggles to meet what she had been planned for right from a very early age ie. to be the sacrifice on her twenty first birthday killed to appease the ocean goddess however she needs to see if there is more to life, and love is what finally is discovered and what makes her realise that it is love and not death that makes every sacrifice worth making!!! What can i say Rabea this book goes on my best reads shelf and i would highly recommend that all who can, read this book, it is amazing in its brilliance and please keep up with this excellent writing, i look forward to the 2nd book!

Quite an intriguing fantasy book, mostly for the unique world created and the people who inhabited it. I very much enjoyed how the author built the world without going on and on about details that didn't pertain the story. Masterfully done. The writing itself was excellent and didn't knock me out of the story at all. The only thing that stopped me from enjoying it 100% was that a certain plot point (will she or won't she?) was repeated what I thought was too many times. It was a constant swing back and forth from two different outcomes. There were definite surprises, but mostly about the same thing. Also, some of the changes in characterization seemed rather abrupt. This is a writer's critique of the book, though. The tiny things I mentioned above hardly detracted from the overall enjoyment of the story. It was a good one! I'd recommend this to others who like character-driven fantasy.

This first novel is stunning in the character development and plot. The world is very well described although it is a character driven story. It was very easy to fall into the story and ache for the horrors to which the female protagonist is subjected. I love a book that literally causes me to be surprised when I realize I have been holding my breath for a minute or two. This is one of those rare books. I have to say this took longer to read than my usual type of book. Every once in awhile I would think about putting it down, but somehow, someway I was drawn into the struggles of this young woman's life and her desire to be loved. I am not ashamed to say, my eyes misted up and I sniffled quite a bit towards the end. It was well worth the read.

This is not at all the book I expected to read. This was much better. I expected a simple escape to a new life; instead I found Naheli facing the hard questions and coming to terms with her life with a deeper, truer faith. Full disclosure: I was fortunate enough to obtain this book for free, but this review expresses my true, unsolicited opinion.

Interesting book. Not bad as a first book. I know that sounds like a backhanded compliment but that is not the way I mean it. I did enjoy the book. There were a couple of areas that things moved a bit slowly but not so slow that I wanted to put the book aside. I finished the book in just three days. I would suggest that if you enjoy fantasy you should give this book a chance.

Excellent read and a beautiful story. I am left in awe of Scholz's descriptive power. The story line never goes where you think and leaves you guessing as to the outcome right until the very end. Highly recommend this book

Without a doubt, the best indie-published novel I've read this year. Loved the world building, the romance, the characters ... one of those books that left me completely immersed in the fictional world and that I just couldn't put down until I reached the last page.

Wonderful story This book really had me thinking about faith (im not exactly religious and this book did NOT preach any sort of belief) but the main character and her search for what is right and what she really wanted was well written and thought provoking and i would highly recommend it.

This book is about faith, deception and the things that people will do to protect what they believe. It was like a tidal wave, lifting me up and carrying me along to an end that was just what it had to be. I loved this book from beginning to end. I might even read it again.

I got this as a free e-book in Amazon. I really enjoyed reading Naheli's Sacrifice. I found the storyline to be immersive and its characters vivid. It's also consistent with the main theme, which I believe to be the key lesson(s) the author is trying to share. The outcome of it was beautifully written and left me satisfied, regardless.
