The book is absolutely awesome. It's 160 pages of captivating, and profoundly touching photos. Yes, it has some text, but the pictures are what you're buying. The author/photographer is Pete Souza, a former photographer with The Chicago Tribune. Souza made a wise decision to follow President Obama around since 2005, and to take pictures of him. The result is a book of photographs that are nothing short of breathtaking. Make sure its in your collection. For a sneek peak of the photos, go to the pho The book is absolutely awesome. I thought this book was very helpful for me to learn about the president of the united states. I didn't even know before that Obama was a senator for Illinois. I had no idea that he even excited as a political role in the government. so it was really interesting to learn what he did as a senator. he did some pretty cool stuff like going to other countries or helping Chicago. Also he was very respected even when he first became a senator. I love Pete Souza's work, particularly appreciative of his work at the White House. There's that mystique of what life is really like as the president, and he offers a small window into the day to day realities. Pretty amazing with some of the shots he's captured...both planned and spontaneous. This was an interesting project and I really liked reading his descriptions and his story. This was a great companion to reading "Becoming" by Michelle Obama. Seeing the Obamas in the days before the election was so lovely, especially hearing the stories from Michelle Obama alongside the photos and commentary from Souza. And Souza captures people and situations so very well, I felt like I was living in a piece of history.

Photojournalist Souza portrays the then Senator's first year of office and his meteoric rise to the Democractic candidacy. All in black and white, these photos paint a perfectly poised man, in public and private moments. His charisma is reflected on the faces of his public admirers.

This is not the type of book you read cover to cover (at least not me). But if you're into photography and politics then it's a must. Pete Souza is a fantastic photographer. A great "coffee table" book...

This is a collection of photographs by photographer who later went on to become the official White House photographer during Obama's presidency. This is a series of black-and-white pictures that captures the rise to the presidency.

A great coffee table book full of fantastic photos of Barack Obama leading up to the presidential election. There's not much to read in this book besides facts associated with the photos and information on the photographer.

I am clearly having nostalgia for when this man was in office since I just read Chasing Light about Michelle Obama . He's missed, the understatement of the year!

This photographer spent a *lot* time with Senator Obama, beginning with his election as a Congressman. I enjoyed the time-capsule of photos chronicling his few years since then.

An outstanding photographic journey, but seems to cut off about six months too soon in the chronology.

A little bit of a letdown after Souza's "An Intimate Portrait" but still a nice look into Obama's life. I would have liked to see these pictures in color, but still elegant in its simplicity.

Menurut saya Pete Souza tak hanya sekedar beruntung mendapatkan momen meliput keseharian Obama sebagai Presiden US.

A captivating book about a prominent senator name Barack Obama. This book mostly entails pictures of Barack starting from his days as a U.S. senator. There’s some photos that I’ve never seen before. Mostly pictures, with minimal writing. Photos start from his day as a senator all the way until his presidential campaign in 08. I truly wish this book would have continued until he left the White House in 2016.

Photographs of the early Senate career of Barack Obama. Included in the TV documentary “The Way I See It” about his years as official White House photographer. Quite moving.
