I cannot wait to use it in regards to my allotment plot this summer. As always, I try to find a reason to not rate with stars as I love emojis (outside of Instagram and Twitter) so let's give it 🍏 🍅🥕 🥔🍑

I am not an experienced gardener, but I enjoy planting and caring for my garden so I am always on the hunt for some good advice. This book provides plenty of that, and by plenty I mean tons and tons of it. Seriously, this guide is packed to the brim with useful stuff, so many that I can't possibly implement it all! It is based around the idea of wasting as little as possible so that is a big plus. Also, I actually read some things in here that I didn't encounter anywhere else, so it is safe to say that as a guide, it is pretty original in content. Only thing I am not so big fan of, and it is really just a personal preference, is alphabetical order of advice. I don't like that for two reasons. First, it makes more sense to me to organize it by topic or something like that, just group it together somehow. Second, it is not really a book to pick up and read, it is like a dictionary, and you don't just pick up a dictionary and read. But, that is really minor and someone might like that just as much as I don't. Still, a five star guide without a doubt.

Gardening can be costly, but this book provided EXCELLENT tips and information on how to make your garden successful, productive, and save money doing it. There are some great planting tips, like which vegetables should be planted next to each other (or not), when to plant, and how to plant them. This book isn't just for vegetables, it covers trees, non-producing fruit/veggie plants, flowers, and much more. Composting, insecticides, and water conservation are also discussed and there are tips on Gardening can be costly, but this book provided EXCELLENT tips and information on how to make your garden successful, productive, and save money doing it. I do not exactly have a green thumb, but I am trying very hard to garden so that I can provide my family with healthy, organic vegetables. But, it is a challenge! As a money-conscious new gardener, I soaked up as many tips as I could, and I can’t wait to see how my garden grows this year. For example, MacLeod provides helpful information about water conservation, environmentally safe sprays, and composting. Knowing this information ahead of time has helped me tremendously. I am so excited to start planting my garden now and implementing some of the tips discussed in the book such as planting tomatoes near asparagus, celery, carrots, basil, chives or parsley because they are mutually beneficial to each other, and sinking a coffee can in the ground to fill with water or fertilizer to have it readily distributed to the roots! I’m confident that these tips will result in a very successful gardening year for me!

Since I’ve been mulling over the idea of gardening, I thought this would be a great book to read while planning things out. I was especially drawn to it because of the promise of frugal tips. I wasn’t disappointed in the slightest bit either. In fact, I found so many helpful suggestions that I am sure I will be referencing this book all spring. I was especially thrilled with the section on pest control. I’m not a big fan of poisons on things I plan to later eat, so this section came in handy. I also loved her cute little tid bits that will help make gardening a little bit easier on the body. Since I have bad knees these hit home. I would recommend this book to anyone that gardens or plans to as it will certainly give you a few tips you’ve never thought of. The book is a quick read too, so you can spend more time working on your garden.

I picked this book up since I have been getting more and more into gardening. I have utilized my little plot of backyard to grow veggies and flowers and I wanted to find something that would help me pare down the waste and garden with less water. I think MacLeod does a fantastic job of making it super easy to be successful and the guidebook is not so long that it becomes monotonous or unhelpful, while being informative on the topic at hand.

All of the tips in this book are detailed without being heavy. Not only are they full of common sense, but it covers so many areas that new gardeners could easily skip over without this knowledge. It is a great reference tool for all of your gardening questions and ideas.

This book represents a burning desire I have for gardening, but unfortunately my sister was the one that got the green thumb from my mom and dad. This book isn’t just about growing vegetables, but it also teaches how to discourage animals and insects from destroying your crop, composting, different types of containers, and fertilizing. I was able to gather valuable information that is making me itch to try my hand at growing something, though my children always feel sorry for any plants or seeds I purchase knowing there is a slow death coming for them. This time I just know I will be able to watch the fruit of my labor bloom.

A very well laid-out gardening book that offers many tips on starting and maintaining a garden. The garden can be small or large, flowers or vegetables. I liked how the tips were listed alphabetically which helped with easy referencing. The items that were suggested for use in managing a garden, are simple and common, easy to find things. These items have multiple use yet not everyone would know that they can help in fighting pests or enhancing your garden's health.

A good guidebook to go about creating your own earth friendly garden. Most of the time we don’t do that as its expensive, lack of time and knowledge. The book provides in simple ways many hints and techniques to use and get the project going. I think this is a good reference book that can sit on a book shelf as and when needed. It’s organized well and easy to read!

I received this book, for free, in exchange for an honest review. This is an average gardening book. Its main feature is its alphabetical layout. This makes it easier to quickly look something up, but it also prevents the author from going into too much depth. I prefer more depth in my resources but I could see this being up someone else's alley.
