As I read these stories, I will make my highlights and notes here but the reviews of the stories under those titles. This is wonderfully chaptered and navigation perfect for this Kindle edition. No typos thus far.

Maybe 1.432 Stars? I love short stories, I’ve read them since I was a kid. This was on my list for Scary October Reading. And this year I dove into the horror/supernatural genres as well - all very good. I’ve decided that many of the older, “classic” horror/supernatural short stories of long, long ago (let’s say from late 1800’s into early 1900’s) are a bit disappointing. I now read shorts from that period not to be scared or creeped out - pieces from that time just aren’t spooky or chilling in m Maybe 1.432 Stars? I’ve decided that many of the older, “classic” horror/supernatural short stories of long, long ago (let’s say from late 1800’s into early 1900’s) are a bit disappointing. I now read shorts from that period not to be scared or creeped out - pieces from that time just aren’t spooky or chilling in my opinion. I do like them because of their writing style, antiquated and old-fashioned, the good ones can be quite charming and I enjoy the “literary time travel” back to that era. It’s interesting to read the gothic descriptions, the language authors used. But not scary, not horrifying. A haunted parrot scares a character to death? Even Edgar Allan Poe (blasphemy!!) doesn’t give me any kind of goosebump thrill. Love his writing style though. I suppose I’m jaded in that respect, and maybe stories have to be modern and over-the-top with gruesome, graphic subjects to shock me now? Could be. And many of the stories here were just dull, boring. So no more anthologies of The Greatest <Whatever> Stories Ever Written (Volume 67). At least for a while.
