Ronan is a mighty barbarian known for finding the best pillage on their village raids. That is, until the day he comes home with nothing but a worthless book. The story follows Ronan’s transformation from fierce raider to voracious reader. It’s loaded with humor and laugh out loud moments, like when Ronan considers using the book for kindling or toilet paper. The text has tons of fun Viking references and silly phrases like “Uff da!” that add to the charm. What's a big burly barbarian to do when he accidently realizes books are worth their weight in gold? Obviously he'll need to use his leadership skills to convince a hilarious cast of characters that real treasure lies in finding a book so good that you never want to put it down. Hang on to your helmet, this book is a fun adventure! The stories that this sister duo creates are always full of humor and heart. I highly recommend this book both because of the engaging, clever words and the fun illust What's a big burly barbarian to do when he accidently realizes books are worth their weight in gold? This picture book is very cute. However, it requires its readers to more suspend disbelief than I could muster, since we're supposed to believe that barbarians that don't read could pick up books and find themselves 100% literate and immersed. I know that the point of the book is about how people can change, discover new things, and persuade their communities to join them, but I couldn't get past how unrealistic and impossible this was. This book is wonderful! Brilliant word choices that bring this world to life and make us laugh out loud. My 3 y/o daughter is in love with Ronan As a character and has asked to read it daily since it arrived. She calls him the bad guy (Raiding barbarian) who's a good guy (read to find out!). She loves the goat eating the books and his fuzzy boar slippers— the illustrations are fantastic with lots of little Easter egg surprises. UFF DA! Get this book! Would be a great book for reluctant readers w This book is wonderful! Brilliant word choices that bring this world to life and make us laugh out loud. RONAN THE LIBRARIAN is a book I can TOTALLY see myself using at storytime! Ronan is a barbarian who loves to steal and hoard treasure, but when he gets stuck with a book and accidentally gets hooked on the story, he discovers a new obsession...collecting books! He wants to share his newfound passion with his barbarian friends, but how can he get them to listen and give books a try? . This is a fun story that will make both kids and grown ups laugh.

Entertaining tale of a clan of barbarians who invade and raid and trade, until one day their fearless leader comes home with a treasure box filled with books. I can’t wait for this book to come out in bookstores so I can buy my own copy to share with the kids. This is the kind of book they’ll love, full of humor, adventure and unexpected twists. I was lucky to be able to borrow an advanced reader copy.

Ronan the Librarian celebrates readers of all kinds, even the most reluctant, as well as the powerful role a librarian can play in sharing the love of story. Ronan is every kid who brings a book to the ballpark, every kid who finds a quiet corner to read at a party, and every kid whose imagination has been captured by page-turning adventure. The bold and colorful illustrations are perfectly paired with this funny text.

I loved Ronan the Librarian! What an amazing way to show kids the wonders of reading -- and in a picture book, so at such an early age! Ronan is the cutest little raider and pillager ever, and the story flows out in sweet, barbaric prose. Kids will laugh, and parents will love how much their kids are learning to enjoy books!

One of my favorite books by Tara and Becky! Ronan breaks all stereotypes in this super clever story full of silly literary puns. A great read for young (and old) readers, and anyone who appreciates a good librarian.

This rollicking tale brings Ronan to life with both clever text and bold illustrations. And his admirable quest to make books the most valued treasure among fellow barbarians is one both children and adults will love!

I've read an advanced copy. The text is engaging. The art is spot on with fun details to find. A fun take on the importance of literacy and libraries as Ronan trades his raiding for reading instead.

Ronan is a perfectly normal barbarian. He, raids, he invades and he trades. Then one day he discovers the joy of books. Hooked on reading, he tries to persuade the other barbarians to share his passion. But can a bunch of wild barbarians ever settle down to enjoy a good read? This is a wonderfully entertaining story which shows that even the rowdiest of children (did I say children?? I mean barbarians!!) can find pleasure in reading. This is a wonderfully entertaining story which shows that even the rowdiest of children (did I say children?? I mean barbarians!!) can find pleasure in reading. I love the fact that the barbarians don't completely change who they are over the course of the story, and they don't need to - they are barbarians and they also love books! The language of the story sounds beautifully barbarian too, with a repeated refrain "Uff da!" and lots of barbarian-sounding names. The illustrations are fantastic - Victoria Maderna has turned a brilliant story into a true work of art, full of colour and expression and tons of extra details that aren't even mentioned in the text, such as a goat in the library munching on books. I feel like I could read this book 20 times and discover something new in the illustrations every time! A highly recommended read for all of your little barbarians and bookworms!

Ronan is happy with the barbarian’s life of invading, raiding, and trading until he discovers some papery plunder that changes his life forever—BOOKS! When he realizes how magical books are, he is immediately hooked, and soon he is invading, raiding, and reading until he has enough loot for an entire library. When his friends can’t understand what all the fuss is about, Ronan sets out to prove how special books are, one story at a time.
