This is the book you want to read to understand narcissism in your family. Hall clarifies the whole narcissism nightmare system so that you can understand how to break away from it and heal. I believe that The Narcissist in Your Life will come to have a significant impact on the field, guiding therapists for decades to come in their work with survivors. Hall even grounds her insights in a larger societal context. Her glossary alone is worth the price of the book. If you grew up with narcs, get this book and read it now.

4.9 stars. It would have been 5 because I didn't care for the term "Narcissists cannot love" a part of me disagrees. Even if it's conditional which is what I feel they are only capable of, it's still love, though toxic. Anyway, I just found out that I am in love with a Narcissist, a raging narcissist and I'm finding out 20 years too late. I loved the way this book was written and a very easy read. I do joy annotate books, ever, but I plan to at least reread it and tab most of the pages. This is 4.9 stars. I like books like this that are over 175 pages. Every part of this book was necessary and not really redundant. Well done Dr. Julie Hall

I would give this book ten stars if I could. The narcissist in my life is not in my family but it was still immensely informative and therapeutic to read this book.

Fast paced, easy to read book about a difficult topic. The book starts with lots of descriptions of usual patterns in families where one or two of the parents suffer from a narcissistic disorder. I thought they were very clear, and made sense to me, quite helpful, enabling me to recognize these patterns more easily, although I also thought that they were put so bluntly, as if this was the total truth, whereas in reality things are probably more complicated and nuanced. A really good guidebook for people who were raised by narcissists such as my awful mother and then proceeded to find themselves with similar narcissists throughout their lives !
