I knew Id fall in love with Dexter and Reid. I continue to adore Ackley, and of course I cant wait until they kill the King. Pros: - Dexter and Reid slowly warming up to each other - Ackley messing with Dexter whenever possible - Colbert being a solid friend to Reid, despite his brother's initial mistrust of her. Cons: - A stubborn Prince (he's basically a king honestly) who foolishly keeps wanting to believe the best in his illegitimate son despite all evidence proving he is a bad seed *more I knew I’d fall in love with Dexter and Reid. Thank you Reign publishing and Jennifer Anne Davis for the ARC. This is the second book in the series of Knights of the Realm. This book continues from where we left off in the first book. We get to see Reid joining Dexter and then continuing their journey to the palace at Axian. One she arrives at Axian she realizes the fact that there are more things she doesn't know about Axian, the prince and the commander. With each thing, she discovers her loyalties are tested. Her duty as a knight and her impending marriage to stop a possible war between the Northern Marsden and Southern Marsden is hanging heavily on her shoulders. Her life is not in her control any more than it was back in Ellington. Things she looked forward to in Axian won't be the things she will be able to do. Will Dexter and Reid be able to trust each other enough to go through the marriage. While we see their journey we also see the problems arising and the general disquiet it brings. What is the King going to plan and how will he execute it? Can Reid be a knight and not be loyal to the King? With assassins attacking them, King starting a war and an impending arranged marriage between two people who don't trust one another the story takes us through some fantastic turns, assassination attempts, and unlikely friendships. The book was an amazing follow up for the first book and again ends with a cliffhanger and the best ending to keep the readers eager and awaiting the conclusion to this brilliant series. I totally recommend this book and definitely check it out. It's entertaining, fast-paced and filled with intrigue and conspiracy. A 5 star read for sure. This author is one of my favorites, and this book doesn't disappoint! I loved how people were at odds and then a glimmer of hope... How Reid's character is good, and she battles following orders as opposed following her conscious. Really great second book, usually I dread the second in a series or am not sure about how I feel about the direction, etc. until the third book is read. This one is great in and of itself!

Omg! Jennifer Anne Davis will forever be one of my favorite authors. Shes writes the most addictive fantasies. I loved this book every bit as much as I loved the first book. If you are new to the series, you can check out my review of book one, Realm of Knights HERE Shadow Knights is a young adult fantasy book and is the second book of the Knights of the Realm series by author Jennifer Anne Davis. By now, you all know how much I love Jennifer Anne Davis. Her Reign of Secrets series is one of my favorite fantasy series, and then book one in this series, Realm of Knights blew everything out of the water. It had all the makings of a new favorite series for me! And that was pretty much cemented when I devoured Shadow Knights. I love this series so much! Book 3, Hidden Knights comes out TOMORROW, and I cannot contain my excitement! I need the book on my kind right now. If you are new to the series, this is the perfect time to binge read them! I am not going to get spoilery in this review, but at the end of book one, our main character Reid, finds herself in an interesting position. Her whole life she has pretended to be her father's eldest son, not daughter, so that her father's land had a male heir to pass to. Through a series of events, she finds herself in a secret organization, and ends up in a neighboring Kingdom, which turns out to be completely different than everyone in her kingdom was led to believe. I loved how surprising the kingdom of Axian and the Kingdom of Marsden were. I will admit that I think they both played off some extremes to prove a plot point, but I think it worked really well in the larger story, and I am dying to read the next book to see how it will all turn out. And being the master fantasy writer that Jennifer is, her plot becomes even more nuanced and twisty. And the surprises and political intrigue are top notch as expected, but I love all of the layers that found within the story. Every character has a secret of two up their sleeve, and they are all so fantastic! And the romance is slow burn banter at it's best. Oh, how I am enjoying it all! It is swoon worthy, and so well built. I loved watching it simmer along for the whole book, and I am basically ready to combust with excitement at the next novel. I need it right now. If you are a fan of fantastic politics, wonderful characters, a kick ass plot and a wonderful slow burn romance, you simply must read the Knights of the Realm Series. It has it all, and throughout everything it has Jennifer Anne davis' signature fantatsic writing style. I have more of the plot laid out in my review of book one, but this sequel does a great job expanding on the plot and taking it in new directions. This was a perfect sequel. I think I may like it more than the first book, which is really saying something because that was already a favorite of mine!  Fantasy is my favorite genre by far, and Jennifer Anne Davis has written one of my favorite fantasy series of all time. I love that Jennifer Anne Davis keeps me on my toes so much. In a way that few authors can, she has me flipping pages not only because the story is addictively good, but because I have no idea where it will go next. And that is so darn refreshing, I can't even tell you how much I love her novels. She is in a class of her own when it comes to writing great fantasy. If you have never read a book by Jennifer Anne Davis, you are really missing out. Pick any of her series and start reading! I think Realm of Knights is a great book for new readers to fall in love with. You will become just as hooked as I am. Read this series now! You can thank me later. :)

Okay Interesting read and I will read the rest book. However, the writing is a bit juvenile and the characters and their actions are a bit simplistic. A fun easy read but just okay writing.

First of all: I love this cover. So much. So pretty. Now that that's out there, let's move into the review. The best things about Jennifer Anne Davis books is that they have a large enough cast for variety and entertainment, but not enough to overwhelm the reader. They also all have excellent pacing that keeps the story moving, but also slides in important details. 'Shadow Knights' is no different. Moving from the Northern Marsden royal family, Reid has to take on the Axian royal family in far more intimate circumstances than she would like. By being forced into an arranged marriage with a man who threatened her life the last (and first) time they met. The book teeters on the edge of the ages old question of who to trust. Dexter knows she was sent to spy. He can't trust her. Reid knows Dexter is hiding something. She can't trust him. And it shows. Which is something that is not always done well in other stories with the same premise. Yet, every action has a reaction and they all make sense. The relationship that does eventually develop between Dexter and Reid is something natural and takes very delicate timing. There's always the sense that if something went just a little bit differently over the course of the book, things would not be what it is. Nothing feels contrived. This also extends into the plot. Things are happening all over northern Marsden that has everyone in Axian on edge. And even a marriage of convenience isn't all that convenient. Without giving too much away, I can honestly say that this book does not enwrap itself in Dexter and Reid circling around one another. There are real stakes, dangers, and plots to unravel and they're both willing to work at their own ends. If they happen to meet in the middle and agree on some things, so be it. But it's not the goal. Which was something I truly appreciated. To wrap this up, I would definitely say that this met every one of my (high) expectations for the sequel of 'Hidden Knights'.

I was so excited when I read the end of Realm of Knights and saw that we were moving from a forbidden romance to a hate-to-love possibility. I couldn't quite put my finger on my issue with Gordon, but I was immediately excited about the possibility of Dexter. Reid was excited about moving to Axian because of their views on women's equality. So different from Marsden where she had to be raised as a boy. She's happy to be able to live as she feels. But that's not what she arrives to find waiting I was so excited when I read the end of Realm of Knights and saw that we were moving from a forbidden romance to a hate-to-love possibility. Reid was excited about moving to Axian because of their views on women's equality. So different from Marsden where she had to be raised as a boy. She's happy to be able to live as she feels. But that's not what she arrives to find waiting for her in Axian. She has a role to play and it isn't being herself completely. However, the good thing for Reid is that she's being put into a position where her voice can be heard where it can make an impact...as long as she and Dexter can find a way to work together. Dexter has a heart for his people. For doing the right thing. I wasn't always sure that his ideas or plans were what is best... but time will really tell how things play out in the future. I enjoyed every single sentence of the journey between Reid and Dexter's journey thus far. They have to find a way to trust each other which involves shared experiences and shared love for certain people--those closest to them as well as the general public. I feel like there is much to say about this book and story, but I don't want to spoil anything. I really enjoyed Colbert, Gytha, Henrick, and Nara. I worry a little about Colbert and some things that I see as a possibility for the future. Gytha...I hated initially, but I grew to appreciate her and felt bad for her through the story as well. Even though, Gytha is perfectly capable in the physical realm. Henrick is one of those people who sees the best in others to a fault. He won't listen to sound counsel because he is so sure in his faith in others. Nara is just likable all around. I want to be her when I grow up. If Hidden Knights was already published I would have bought it immediately upon finishing Shadow Knights. I got sucked in and read this story in less than 24 hours... even staying up late at night to read (which is truly rare since having kids). Shadow Knights gets 4.5 Stars. Have you read Shadow Knights? What did you think? Let me know!

Wish I had savored this one more slowly I stayed up way too late to read this book. The story is full of multidimensional characters who have nuanced exchanges, inside jokes, and layers of motivations to puzzle out. The romance builds subtly over the course of the story, but there is a niggle of doubt at the end as to who is really on the up-and-up. Reid does a remarkable job of navigating her world turned upside down, but I wish there were more moments where she has to resume her male identity. A favorite character returns toward the later part of the story, and, while the dialog is very clever throughout the book, it gets even better with the gang back together. There are a couple of character surprises in this second installment, but the reader must continue the series to learn more about them and how everything will turn out. The writing is nearly error free. There are a few fight scenes, a couple of not graphically described murders, a few kisses, and some busyness as Reid travels “there” (no spoilers) and back again rather quickly. What makes me want to recommend this book are the dialog scenes and the interesting character interactions, which involve rather intelligent and forthright humans. I would recommend reading the second book soon after the first so that the complicated “declare an heir” relationships among the royal family members are fresh in the reader’s mind.

I'm just going to rate this trilogy all together because simply put there was nothing impressive about any of the books. I have read other series by this author and enjoyed them but this one was not for me. It had a very immature feel to it in each of the 3 books. Our lead female acts like shes 12 years old. She continually blushes and gets embarrassed anytime sex is so much as mentioned. So here is my breakdown of the 3 books: Book 1 was free at least when I got it, Id rate this one a 3 star. So long review cut short...………….the characters all felt overly juvenile to me. I paid $10 to read this trilogy and would not recommend others do the same. After completing this trilogy I was mostly irritated with myself for reading all 3 of these books and wasting my time and money. Do check out some of this writers other work though. Just not this particular series.

Wow what a great book! I loved the first one, and this one was just as great. Full of action and even a tiny bit of romance I read this one in 2 days. I was a diehard Gordon fan, and still am, but I am happy to see someone a little more plausible as Reid's love interest. The characters in this book Wow what a great book! Reid becomes more of a pawn to the kingdom in this story. She goes to meet her future husband and finds out many secrets that have been kept from her or she was told something different. What does she believe now? It seems things are not as clear as they should be. I like Reid. I like how she has some good loyal friends- people who are willing to help her find solutions to helping the kingdom, but what is right? A good story- one that kept me turning the pages.

Whee Should Loyalty Lie? Reid is unhappy. She doesn't want to wear a frilly dress. She doesn't want to marry Prince Dexter. What will she do? Will she sacrifice herself for the safety of the Kingdom? I like the action, humor, intrigue, and romance. Reid is a competent, compelling character. I look forward to the next book.

Loved the second book... it had a great budding romance. Characters that you want to throat punch and a few good laughs. It brings a good range of emotions towards the characters, which I believe is a show of good character building. Ends on a good cliff hanger and has some surprises I didnt see coming. 4.5 stars. Took me a little to get into the swing of this because it's been awhile since I read book one. I loved that this shifted away from the woman-raised-as-a-man emphasis from the first book. While that was still there, this book allowed Reid to move forward into new relationships and new layers to the conspiracies and conflicts. I am thoroughly enjoying this series and can't wait for book 3!

Definitely better than the first book. I don't know how she packs so much character and story development in a fairly small amount of pages but she definitely does. I think one of my favorite things about Jennifer's writing is that she gives absolutely no f*cks about putting her characters through the most awkward situations. It's super entertaining.
