Criminal (2019) , #11, The Last Score, part seven of the Cruel Summer arc, opens with (criminal) Teeg Lawless watching a Wrestlemania match in a large metrodome with some vague regrets about what could have been for him and Ricky as father and son, in some version of a normal life. If you have read the original Criminal series, you know something about what a parent he has been (getting his elementary school-aged Ricky to go on the crime-spree road with him, even drive the getaway car briefly Criminal (2019) , #11, “The Last Score,” part seven of the Cruel Summer arc, opens with (criminal) Teeg Lawless watching a Wrestlemania match in a large metrodome with some vague regrets about what could have been for him and Ricky as father and son, in some version of a “normal” life. If you have read the original Criminal series, you know something about what a parent he has been (getting his elementary school-aged Ricky to go on the crime-spree road with him, even drive the getaway car briefly sometimes) basically what happens in this heist, but this arc goes back to take a telephoto view of the events. Teeg's young girlfriend/accomplice Jane’s in the crowd, ready to set off the diversion they had planned (timed explosives in trash cans), but when he sees that security are not where they were supposed to be, that they seem to be on high alert, he worries that maybe someone has double-crossed the team. And whew, they get the loot, probably half a mill, walk through the chaos of smoke and tear gas out to the getaway cars and get home, imagining that sweet escape to the island, but the window’s open a crack, and wait, how did that get open? Beautifully done.

All these issues have been leading up to this last big score that goes down in this issue. The whole time Teeg is on edge feeling like something is off. Then the end of this issue happens. Dammit man, I knew that guy was going to come back around.

Superb climax (or is it rising action, with an even bigger payoff to come?) to the Cruel Summer story arc. I'm so pleased this series is keeping up a regular, smooth production schedule with such well-crafted single issues that are strong enough to stand on their own.
