Sarah Kieffer is the baking fiend behind "The Vanilla Bean Baking Blog" and she's bundled all that yummy sweetness in one fabulous book! We start with general baking tips and ingredient tips (i.e. what kind of dairy, oils, flour work best with her recipes + equipment) and from there - the cookies. Now she splits her cookies into a few categories. There's "The Classics" - choco-chip, sugar, peanut butter, shortbread and so-on. And then there's the "Brownies & Blondies" - where you an make the classic fudgy brownies and also branch out to turtle, marshmallow peanut butter and expresso carmel. Then we mosey on down to the "Fruitextravaganza" - which has lemon sugar cookies, grapefruit cake bars, mixed-berry crumble and banana cream pie bars. I loved the cookies proposed for the "Next Level" - those ones were pretty wild. Smoky butterscotch, French silk pie bars & crème brûlée cheesecake bars. Then "Time to Play" for the really finicky cookies (like macaron varieties, scotcharoos, kitchen sink cookies). And of course this book has her signature "Pan-Banging Cookies". (note: a pan-banging cookie was made with a specific technique that occurs during the cooking process that involves (spoiler) banging the pan at certain intervals). So, my overall thoughts on this cookbook - I like it! Every Christmas season, my family and I make literally dozens of batches of cookies and while we have our staples (peanut blossoms, candy cane cookies, cut-out), I am always looking to try a few more recipes. And I love the sheer variety offered by this book - and while I can't see myself doing all of these cookies (i.e. banana-expresso-cacao nib cookies and lavender cookies with white chocolate crème fraiche glaze seem a bit outside my usual cooking zone) they definitely all look like a TON of fun. Now before every recipe is a little blurb about where the idea or concept came from. Personally, I love learning about how bakers come up with flavors or the history behind a family recipe. All in all - I quite liked this book! With thanks to Chronicle Books for sending this one my way YouTube | Blog | Instagram | Twitter | Facebook | Snapchat @miranda_reads

UPDATED REVIEW After much deliberation I decided to try one of the classics so here are my chocolate chip cookies! If there's a thing I love as much as reading is baking, so when I saw this book available on Netgalley the first thing that caught my eye was that mouth watering cover. If there's a thing I love as much as reading is baking, so when I saw this book available on Netgalley the first thing that caught my eye was that mouth watering cover. Then I noticed the title, "100 cookies", and I clicked that "Read now" bottom faster than I would eat a cookie (and I can assure you I eat them fast!). The book begins with a short introduction about how the author discovered her love of cookies, giving a series of baking tips that will be extremely useful if it's your first time baking. The book is divided in several chapters, going from basic recipes (cookies, brownies...) to some other elevated recipes perfect for parties or when you wanna impress your family and friends. There's also an "extras" chapter, with some basic fillings recipes and a "pan-banging cookies" chapter, with a technique I had never seen and I'm looking forward to try. There are photos for almost every recipe and all of them have a short introduction with some facts or memories about it. One thing that I'm most grateful for is that all the ingredients are measured not only in cups, tablespoons, etc. but also in grams, making it so much easier for us european bakers. I hate when there're only american measurements in the recipe and I have to convert every single ingredient! There's also a conversion table at the end and some music to bake to (nice touch!). All the recipes have a step by step easy enough for even the most unexperienced bakers to follow. The only problem I've encountered with this book is that I don't know which recipe try first! Thanks to Netgalley and Chronicle Books for providing an eARC in exchange for an honest review.

This is an amazing collection of cookie recipes! Last night, my husband and I spent some time picking out a recipe to try. We were both intrigued by the Neopolitan cookies, so Doug purchased the ingredients and made them today (he's the baker in the family). I'm currently on a keto diet, so I only ate one, but they were delicious! I think they would be a favorite at parties and get-togethers. I truly can't wait to try more of these recipes. We liked this cookbook enough where we figured it wouldn't be particularly convenient for Doug to steal my Kindle every time he wanted to select a recipe. If you have baker in the family, who loves trying new creations, I highly recommend 100 Cookies: The Baking Book for Every Kitchen, with Classic Cookies, Novel Treats, Brownies, Bars, and More. To give you an idea of some other recipes, here are a few I'm anxious to try: - Lemon Sugar Cookies - Smoky Butterscotch Cookies - Mud Pie Bars - Rocky Road Cookies - Chocolate Sandwich Cookies This collection would also make a lovely holiday gift. Definitely recommended! AVAILABLE NOW! My sincere appreciation to NetGalley and Chronicle Books for my review copy.

This was fabulous! A picture for nearly every recipe (always a check in the plus column!) and so many new treats. I tried out the Snickerdoodle, shortbread and sugar cookie recipes with tasty success! I did not have all the ingredients for the créme brulée cheesecake bars so (sadly) that will have to wait till I brave the grocerymart. Much love to NetGalley and Chronicle Books for my delicious DRC. This was fabulous! A picture for nearly every recipe (always a check in the plus column!) and so many new treats. I received this ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Its cookies(and more!)! Do you need to know more than that? There are so many good recipes I can´t even choose my top 10! Buy it and try all of them, I definitely recommend it in this quarantine time when all you should be doing is staying home and baking.

I found the subtitle of this book to be ironic (The Baking Book for Every Kitchen...) because I can't use any of the recipes in my kitchen. That said, if you just want a really great cookie cookbook and you don't have special dietary needs, this is a good one. Color photos are provided of most of the cookies and there's a big assortment of brownies, cookies, bars, etc. of different levels. They are generally the gourmet cookie shop type of deal and they look delicious. No nutritional information is provided for the recipes, but to be honest nobody really wants to know. They're unhealthy. Don't make them often. We all know that. :) A good book for others, but it won't work for my kitchen. I read a temporary digital ARC of this book for the purpose of review.

I've been wanting to be the 100th review on this book because it's 100 Cookies and I think I made it. I honestly don't know of more of a workhorse baking book that this; despite how pretty it is, it's bound to get flour and butter stains all over it. The recipes are ridiculous (Lavender Cookies with White Chocolate–Crème Fraîche Glaze, um hello?!) and the photography amazing (I had a really hard time creating some of the marketing assets without getting hungry). I just received this book today and immediately dug into it. I love the cover. It is very retro and looks like something my mother might have passed down to me. It also includes a ribbon page marker to save your favorite recipe or the one you're currently working on just in case the book closes on you. It is a solid hardcover and I found that the pages generally stayed open to where I left them, but there's always the possibility that a page could turn if you're using a recipe very close to the I just received this book today and immediately dug into it. It is a solid hardcover and I found that the pages generally stayed open to where I left them, but there's always the possibility that a page could turn if you're using a recipe very close to the front or back of the book. The book is divided into 7 parts: 1. The Classics 2. Brownies & Blondies 3. FruitExtravaganza 4. The Next Level 5. Time to Play 6. Pan-Banging Cookies 7. Mix & Match 8. Extras This book includes so much more than cookies. There are delicious-looking brownie recipes, pie dough, marshmallow fluff, candied nuts, caramel, etc. However, most of those are contained in the extras section. The book counts through the cookie and brownie recipes making sure there are 100 before you even get to those. Plenty of tips are included in the introduction and there is a page at the end for conversions, which includes cups to grams, ℉ to ℃, and ounces to grams. There is also an adorable "music to bake to" page with a link to the play list on Apple & Spotify. There are so many recipes included that I would want to try that I can not list them all here. It will take me a very long time to make them all and it will be difficult to decide which to make next. Thank you to Goodreads for providing me with a copy of the book! I really appreciate and love it.

Okay, coming clean - I requested Sarah Kieffer’s 100 Cookies: The Baking Book For Every Kitchen because my son loves to bake and I love to eat whatever baked goods are coming out of my kitchen! I’d say he’s a medium level baker, a big step above a beginner, but far from a pro and this cookbook is perfect for him. 4 ++ stars. This is actually more than just a cookbook of cookie recipes as there are also recipes for many other baked treats included and like the title suggests: brownies, bars, etc......which from my point of view is a win-win scenario. I received a pdf copy of this from Netgalley to review....so unlike cookbooks that I can read on my kindle or phone I was forced to sit at my desktop to peruse and therefore I didn't necessarily read the recipes with the same attention I usually give a cookbook 4 ++ stars. All recipes were explained well with easily accessible ingredients and I enjoyed all the author's personal comments that preceded her recipes. 3 recipes that I instantly wanted to try were the : Neapolitan Cookies, Caramel Bars with Candied Peanuts and the Rum Raisin Cookies. I do think that this is a cookbook that I would genuinely enjoy having my own personal copy of and I also see myself using it as well.

I honestly didn’t think that anything could even come close to Dorie Greenspan’s 2016 Dorie’s Cookies, but this treasure from Sarah Kieffer is right up there! Different in tone and style but still full of fantastic food photography, 100 Cookies deserves a spot on the top cookie cookbook shelf. If there is anything “cute” about this cookbook, it is Chapter 6, which explores “pan-banging” cookies—a method of baking and flattening cookies by literally banging the cookie sheet on the oven rack. Not just cookies, there are also S’mores Blondies and Grapefruit Cake Bars, with many recipes having variations. Excellent instructions, a complete index, and links to the author’s cookies playlists are included.

(I have played a zillion games of scrabble, done a zillion crosswords and I AM BORED!!!) I requested and received a temporary digital Advance Reader Copy of this book from #NetGalley, the publisher and the author in exchange for an honest review. From the publisher, as I do not repeat the contents or story of books in reviews, I let them do it as they do it better than I do 😸. 100 recipes for all types of cookies--chocolatey, fruity, crispy, chewy, classic, inventive—there's a foolproof recipe for the perfect treat for everyone in this book. Sarah Kieffer writes The Vanilla Bean Baking Blog and introduces a whole new technique for baking cookies that ensures crisp edges and soft centres for the most delicious cookies. Recipes range from the Classic Chocolate Chip made three different ways, to bars, brownies, and blondies that reflect a wide range of flavours and global inspiration. Sample of some of the cookies: Soft Chocolate Chip Cookies & Brown Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies & Thin and Crispy Chocolate Chip Cookies & Thin and Crispy Double Chocolate Cookies & Peanut Butter Cookies & Fudgy Brownies & Cakey Brownies & Cream Cheese Brownies & Turtle Brownies & Rocky Road Brownies & Lemon Sugar Cookies & Orange Almond Shortbread Cookies & Raspberry Rye Cookies & White Chocolate, Rosemary, and Apricot Cookies & Banana Poppy Seed Cookies & Lavender Cookies with White Chocolate–Crème Fraîche Glaze & Smoky Butterscotch Cookies & Palmiers with Apricot and Cardamom & French Meringues & Meringues with Cacao Nibs and Caramel Swirl & Chocolate Macarons & Neapolitan Cookies & Roll-Up Cookies, Two Ways & Half-and-Half Cookies, Two Ways & Chocolate Sandwich Cookies & Oatmeal Chocolate Cookies & Rum Raisin Cookies & Triple Chocolate Cookies & Rocky Road Cookies & Toasted Sesame Cookies & Brownie Cookies with Cardamom Buttercream Filling & Peanut Butter Cookies with Peanut Butter Filling & Snickerdoodle Cookies with Pumpkin Buttercream & Ginger Cookies with Salted Caramel Ice Cream & Oatmeal Cream Pies, oh my! If you CANNOT find a cookie that you like in here ... you're ... vegan. Or gluten-free. Or allergic to dairy ... etc. This book is for people who like white flour, butter, eggs, gluten-filled oats, etc. etc. etc. Like me - 😂 I have bookmarked so many cookie recipes that I am just going to buy a copy of the book for myself and the library. iI actually recently found out that I am allergic to wheat but the occasional cookie I have made for my parents or husband can be tolerated if I am not in the mood to use cup-for-cup wheat-free-flours. (And that cardamom buttercream filling/icing/frosting mentioned above? Bring it on!!!!) As always, I try to find a reason to not rate with stars as I love emojis (outside of their incessant use by "🙏-ed Social Influencer Millennials/#BachelorNation survivors/Tik-Tok and YouTube Millionaires/etc. " on Instagram and Twitter... Get a real job, people!) so let's give it 🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪

With COVID-19 causing a global pandemic in early 2020, many families are isolated at home. Some are luckier than others, with work arrangements taken care of or modified and no children or study commitments. Others however, are not. Some are luckier than others, with work arrangements taken care of or modified and no children or study commitments. Others however, are not. With Australian’s running for the baking aisles of supermarkets like it’s doomsday, people all over the country were eager to stay occupied and turn into baking kings and queens. I was lucky enough to already have a pantry stocked of baking supplies so with this book in hand it was cookie-bonanza for a week in my house. “Soft Chocolate Chip Cookies” (picture included on my blog of cookies) Firstly, the information outlined at the start of the book defining terminology, measurements, and equipment needed was fantastic. I have a small baking background (but nothing fancy) and some things are “common knowledge” to me, but I realised this is not the case for everyone, particular first time bakers. But even I learned something new from these first few pages! In particular the egg wash recipe is something I will keep on hand for future reference as i’ve never found one that was sufficient! So with my pantry full, and book in hand I attempted some recipes. I can happily say the soft chocolate chip cookies turned out amazingly and I cannot stop going back for more! (nor can the rest of the household). I should note, that I used a low-fodmap flour in substitute for the all-purpose flour but this did not affect the outcome of the cookies. A picture of my end result is included on my blog. Additionally, the pictures! WOW! After viewing each picture I continue to think that I cannot be more impressed but I am! I also wonder if any baking was done when these pictures were taken, they are eerily clean working areas. I did not make my way through trying every recipe personally before posting this review as I don’t have *that* much sugar on hand but I certainly will look forward to revisiting this book in the future. These recipes are perfect for a weekend treat, baking day with the kids, or to take something special to an event. Actually, literally any reason you need a sweet treat, this book is for that. It replaces every other baking book in the kitchen! Thank you Netgalley for a copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion. 5/5 stars

Also, the pan-banging technique that the author has featured in many of the recipes makes for an incredible cookie experience. If there is one dessert that is my favourite to make, it is a cookie. 100 Cookies has so many ideas that there is really something for almost everyone within its pages. Having never heard of pan-banging before, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect from this book. It is an absolute game-changer for anyone who loves cookies. The book is well laid out and divided into sections: Introduction (including tips and equipment) The Classics Brownies + Blondies Fruitextravaganza The Next Level Time to Play Pan-Banging Cookies Mix + Match Extras ❀ WILL STEP-UP YOUR COOKIE GAME It was hard to decide which cookie to start with, but I eventually settled on the Snickerdoodles. The recipe itself is quite similar to ones that I have created before, but the method of banging the cookie tray multiple times provided fantastic results. By lifting the tray and letting it fall back onto the rack every few minutes during baking creates these amazing ripples. If you love the crispy outside of a cookie, this is one idea that will step up your cookie game. ❀ FUN AND INTERESTING COLLECTION OF RECIPES Another fun inclusion to the book is a playlist created by the author. This is such a lovely and interesting collection of recipes that will really make for some relaxing and stress-relieving time spent in the kitchen. If you love to create desserts and are looking for new ideas, 100 Cookies by Sarah Kieffer is a definite win.

I've also baked a couple of her bars, namely the Crème Brûlée Cheesecake Bars and Espresso Cheesecake Bars. All of the recipes I've made, ALL OF THEM, are über, satisfyingly yummmmmmmy. My husband and kid, who, unlike myself, are not fond of sweets at all, enjoyed them so much that the cookies/bars disappeared VERY quickly. We liked everything I've baked from it so much that I've already pre-ordered a copy. I can't wait to bake more treats from this cookbook for my family!

Usually a cake or bread baker by nature, cookies admittedly come third in my choice of baking, so I must admit that this book really got me excited to start baking cookies again. I thought that the range of choice of cookies in this book was really good and I liked the way it was categorised into sections such as: classic cookies, brownies and blondies, fruitextravanganza, pan-banging and extras. The extras included marshmallow fluff, caramel shards and the no-churn ice-cream which turns your ordinary cookie into an amazing delight! One recipe that caught my attention was the Red Wine Cherry Cheesecake Swirl Bars. To me it would be fancy enough for any occasion and relatively easy to make. The only downside really to this book is that the recipe method, though numbered, was in paragraph form. I think that this may be confusing for an amateur baker to follow when referring back to the recipe while baking. Despite this, I would still recommend this book to bakers of all levels. Overall, I would definitely buy this book and am looking forward to trying the Rocky Road Brownie recipe and one of the famous pan-banging recipes. 4 out of 5 Stars. *ARC provided to me by Chronicle Books via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review*
