Forced to move due to a problem at home, a problem in the form of his ex-best friend hating him for something that Banner’s father did, Banner doesn’t think very much could improve in his life. He left his status as king of Benton High School behind and moved to a new school where not only would he have to try out for a new football team and prove himself, but he’d also have to find a place for himself in the hierarchy. Only, the moment that he arrives, he knows that finding a place for himself won’t be too hard. Especially when his reputation follows him all the way to Kilgore, Texas. *** Perry Street hates school. She hates her peers—most of them anyway—and she hates her classes. All she wants to do is finish her senior year, graduate, and find a place that will give her a full scholarship so that she doesn’t have to be stuck here forever. That’s her goal, anyway. Then she walks into first period, on her first day of her senior year, and sits down. Seconds later, he walks in and changes every single plan she’s ever made. It isn’t long before Perry starts to fall for the bad boy who doesn’t care who he does and doesn’t impress. The boy makes her heart flutter. The boy makes her want things that she’s never wanted before. Not ever. The boy brings trouble with him that nearly kills her.

I went into this with a few reservations, I have become a little obsessed with Lani Lynn Vale's writing and love her writing style. But those books were all mature couples, and this is a new adult, high school story. So, I wasn't really sure what I was going to get. And honestly what I got was exactly what I loved about her other books; it wasn't even really dialled back any. Obviously, this was all set-in high school, but I never really felt like I was reading about kids. Obviously, this was all set-in high school, but I never really felt like I was reading about kids. Partially because I just didn't fixate on their ages, but also because both Perry and Banner didn't act like idiots. Also, there was none of the typical new adult drama. Banner basically fell in love with Perry at first sight. And Perry was right there with him. Most of the drama was outside of their relationship, which I loved. Banner had the whole alpha thing in hand. And Perry was awesome. She didn't have a heap of painful insecurities or annoying habits to drive me nuts. I really loved this couple and their story kept me flipping pages all afternoon. I wish this was being turned into a series as the secondary characters were equally as awesome. But since I already have so many more Lani Lynn Vale books to read it's probably for the best it isn't.

After finding out that Banner would be coming to town in Maybe Swearing Will Help (Ford & Ashe's book), I didn't even think about him getting his own story. Banner Spurlock was delicious! Honestly, where were all the guys like him when I was in high school? He was smart, sweet, charming, obviously gorgeous, and this book had him shaping up to be one incredible hero. After Banner's dad (a cop) shot Vance's dad (who was holding a gun to his wife's head), Banner's one time friend had turned into his worst enemy. He made Banner's high school experience, his very life, a living hell. When it becomes clear that it will never get better, Banner's dad decides to send him off to a new school, closer to his brother, and hopefully he'll be able to be safe and happy. And happy he turned out to be because one of the first people he meets is Perry, the grouchy girl in sweats who doesn't seem to want to give him the time of day. He makes quick friends with the football team, takes over as quarterback, and finds an in with Perry. Life is good... until Vance shows up at this new school. There was the usual angst you'd find in a high school romance, but the author created a world where the primary characters took center stage and their drama was pretty miniscule. I easily fell in love with Banner and Perry and all of the side characters. I'm crossing my fingers that they'll get their own stories because Slone needs a book! LLV nailed young love!!

Banner movies to a new school to get away from an issue at his old school. In his senior year of high school, this is not what he wanted, but he knew it was for the best. Perry is the quiet girl who plays volleyball and runs track but doesn't try to put herself out there. Banner is immediately taken by Perry. Something about her make him want to get to know her better. Banner has a problem though, his issue from his old school follows him to his new school. And this issue starts causing problems. Including with Perry. Perry has her own issue with the school bitch (Symphony). But Perry does not back down. Can Banner and Perry survive their issues or will their issue be too much? And what happens when Banner makes a decision but doesn't tell Perry about it? I felt this story was cute. It had just enough heat for those readers looking for heat but it also had a really good story line. I will say I loved that volleyball was added to this book. I played in school and it is barely written about. I loved seeing names from past books. But even if you have never heard any of Lani's other books, I feel this one can defiantly be a standalone. I am excited to see what happens with the kids from this book.

Y’all. LLV really got me with this one. I loved EVERYTHING about Banner. At first he comes off a bit like he has a chip on his shoulder but once you get the background things definitely start to make sense. The plot had me hooked from the very beginning. The dynamics between he and Vance, the antagonist, really made for a good source of conflict but it still didn’t detract from Banner’s developing relationship with Perry and his new group of friends. I plan on hanging around a lot.” Only Ms. Vale could make me get lost in the high school drama and its setting, and still feel like I was reading about mature young adults, and a awesome and highly entertaining crew at that. Banner was pushed to this school, but I’d say he hit the jackpot, not only did he end up meeting his one, the girl of his dreams, Perry, when he least expected on his very first day in his new school, but he also got ton of loyal buddies. These two were so incredibly well match and oh so amazing together that I had no chance not to fall for them, in all their teenage/young adult glory. Much like other LLV characters, they are so down to earth and relatable that it’s impossible not to connect with them, even accounting their age. They were fabulously written, and for such a young couple they packed a big punch of raw chemistry. Their magnetism was palpable from the first meeting, and it only grew and blossomed along with their love for one another. They made my heart so happy! “Just… don’t break my heart, Banner Spurlock. I’m trusting you with it.” “You fit perfectly in my arms,” I should have known by now, that Ms. Vale could pull of any genre and trope, but still it amazes me the freshness and novelty she manages to continue to bring, every time, even after reading dozens of her books. Her trademark writing style is always present, but always with a hint of something new, something that I can’t exactly explain, a lightness and deceivingly effortless story telling that gets us addicted and begging for more, each and every time. And Somethin’ About That Boy is the written proof of it, because it made me insanely curious about the rest of the crew, and even with a certain wariness about events revealed, and circumstances less than favorable, for my picky self, lol, I still am begging to know more, also to get a chance to see more Banner and Perry. That’s the LLV witchcraft right there! <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 I wasn’t sure when it happened. Somewhere in between meeting Perry Street and now, I’d gone and fallen in love with her. No turning back. Fight anyone that tries to hurt her. Kill anything that does kind of love. I'm not sure about this one. There's insta-love and a lot of unrealistic situations going on here. The plot was almost non-existent and the big conflicts in the book are solved rather easily (view spoiler)[I'm thinking about Vance and the SEAL stuff (hide spoiler)] . Also, this didn't feel very young adult, despite that both main characters are 17 years old. I'm not sure about this one. There's insta-love and a lot of unrealistic situations going on here. Spurlock genes grows them big😜 An unexpected story for Banner and Perry, which I absolutely loved❣️Banner is having issues with an old friend back home, when his dad decides to enrol him in Kilgore to finish his senior year. Luckily for him, this came with a Perry perk😍 I kept feeling like something bad was going to happen with this couple, so I’m wondering exactly what LLV has up her sleeve next and if we will see this couple again soon?

That Lani magic strikes again! This time in the form of an epic mature YA/NA read (whatever you prefer to call it.) that was utterly unputdownable. I woke up this morning with every intention of being a responsible productive member of society…until this was on my kindle. All that went right out the window. Breakfast was brought to my children via postmates, I don’t remember what math is, what are dishes? Who walks dogs? I had Banner and Perry on my kindle and that was all I needed in the world. Banner is his father’s son in the sense of how much kindness radiates from him with those he loves and how instantly he falls for Perry. That immediate connection these two had was freaking magnificent! Their love was so sweet. Filled with chemistry, sweetness and just the right amount of heat.

YESYESYES. GIVE.ME.MORE. After learning Banner would be getting his own book I was freakin stoked!. It was a unexpected but very much wanted surprise. Young love is the sweetest!!. The reason I tend to stay away is because with high school/ college settings, there normally comes a tonne of drama I don't have time for. I avoid angst in general anyway. However I'm happy to say that this isn't the same. Not even a little. Banner and Perry spark a fuse immediately. The chemistry is there from the beginning and they take their time with eachother. There is no fast paced super unrealistic insta love. It's sweet and full of growth and learning. Neither is easy to trust but Banner knows Perry is it for him from day one. Like father like son. Banner is a young here but he has a definite feel of who he is and where he wants to go in life. His level of maturity and patience is a very admirable quality in any man never mind a youngman. He definitely holds his fathers confidence because he's fast at making friends and very secure in who he is. I love that. Perry is my kind of girl. A little prickly and under no illusions of who she is, she just feels no need to fit in with the norm or be anything other than exactly who she is. If that's not enough then you're not in her life. Like any girl she has her own insecurities but she doesn't let it take over. She's smart and focused on what she wants with very little interest on any of the usual high school dramalama. They balance each other really well and I feel like despite their age they're super mature about their relationship. Their journey is super sweet and slow. They really make the effort to get to know eachother before anything else and become friends as well as lovers. I think that's what made is work so well. They just grew together seamlessly. As usual Lani never disappoints with giving us super entertaining colourful characters that bring so much life to the party. I feel like she did a great job of slipping this story in despite the time line differences. It felt really seamless. Obviously I loved getting to hear more of Trance, Viddy and the crew. There will never be enough of them. I really loved how the whole Vance plot has stemmed from Trance into Banner's story and will continue into the new series. I'm excited for where this is going and she definitely did a fabulous job setting it all up and gripping my attention. It's not super fast paced or very action packed but it still packs a punch. The story keeps you on your toes with the unknown and the romance has you all up in your feels. It's sweet, funny and all kinds of relatable. It's feel good romance with a twist and the ending will have you in tears at the sweetness of it all. Honourable mention goes out to Perry's dad because that guy is my hero and I so badly want to know more about him!. What a phenomenal character. Also... there will be some unanswered questions but Lani does clarify that they will be answered in the beginning of the book further down the line with the new series. So don't worry about that, Vance's time will come. So to wrap this up it's a top favourite for me in Lani's huge collection. It's a definite must read for sure.

But I should have known that Lani Lynn Vale would make it an awesome romance story. Banner was totally alpha over his girl, especially when Vance started making her life miserable. I also loved that we got to see Viddy and Trance. This was my first Lani Lynn Vale book and I wasn't totally disappointed. It was a cute and fun read. I really enjoyed Banner and Perry together. But there were a few things that irked me. There were three different conflicts in this book and they both just seemed to vanish/disappear or resolve entirely too easy. Don't get me wrong I enjoyed this story but how quickly everything was brushed under the rug was disappointing. I am curious about quite a few characters in this book and it was very well written so I am looking forward to seeing if there are future books about some of the secondary characters. Cute, fun and quick read that I would recommend to others.

On his first day as a senior, things start to look up when he meets the beautiful Perry Street. As a QB, he is quickly taken under the football guys' wings. Unfortunately, when he finds out that his reason for relocating has followed him to Kilgore, he begins to fear not only for himself, but for the girl he's started to really care about. "Just then, I finally realized that I was siting in Banner's lap. I. Was sitting. In Banner's lap." Perry Street has always been something of an oddity in Kilgore. However, she's never been interested in being part of the popular crowd, content to play volleyball and hang out with her best girls. When the hot new guy at school shows a marked interest in her, not only does she have to contend with unwanted attention from the popular mean girls, but also from Banner's nemesis. "I've wanted to taste you forever." This was such a fab read. The main characters in this story were pretty mature and responsible. Banner is a fantastic guy - thoughtful, protective and devoted. He was willing to fight for what he wanted and what he cared about. I loved Perry's independence and the fact that she trod her own path. She was stunning and athletic and really couldn't give a hoot about being popular. This story took me a little by surprise as it wasn't quite what I expected. There was the usual high school goings on with mean girls and popular jocks, but there was also a little danger and fear, as well as some angst as Banner and Perry planned for their future together. I adored both their families and feel that I need to go and read about them, too.

Why Banner moved to Kilgore was the basis for this story yet it quickly became so much more. Bullying, love, racism, friendship, loyalty, family. And angst – oh, all the angst! I couldn’t read it fast enough as the story was propelled by the characters from one scene to the next. They made me laugh, get angry and say way too many “awws”. They brought me waaaay back to high school days and it felt uncomfortably real… An abrupt shift in the story, as the main conflict (perhaps too) easily resolved, caught me by surprise. Not a bad surprise but it did take me a bit to realize they were shifting gears and a new conflict was in its place. Luckily, every bit of it contributed to a tension and drama-filled, fantastic one-sitting read!

5 Stars! Lani sure has a way with her words, sometimes in big, unforgettable ways. These two had me so wrapped up, so head over heels, and flipping the pages as fast as I could 5 Stars! Lani sure has a way with her words, sometimes in big, unforgettable ways. Of course, the troubled student follows Banner and the drama between these two just has a new stage upon which to play. Perry Street is a senior in high school, looking forward to her final year of high school and all her sports. She plays volleyball, runs track, and runs cross country. Perry is dedicated to her athletics; in most books, its the male protagonist that is athletic and always training, watching what they eat, and the likes. Perry shows us that female athletes are just as dedicated to their sport and I think its a really positive message for young girls. Banner and Perry have a quick sort of chemistry but Perry is a bit fractious but Banner plows right through her prickly exterior. You have lots of typical HS type events-the mean head cheerleader, the boy sneaking into the girl's room, going to HS sporting events. But, there is some sex in the story, so don't think that because its YA that it's not steamy. Of course I love Banner's family (his parents, his brother, and his sister all have their own books), but Perry's family was beguiling! Her parents are of different races, and she was adopted and is the race of neither of her parents! Her dad is odd and his relationship with Perry is adorable. I loved the times when both families were together because you get a lot of awesome in one room.   POV: dual 1st   Tears: no   Trope: first love   Triggers: (view spoiler)[Perry is physically assaulted and when she is found, they believe she has been raped because her pants and underwear are gone (hide spoiler)]   Series/Standalone: Stand alone   Cliffhanger: (view spoiler)[no (hide spoiler)]   HEA: (view spoiler)[yes with cute epilogue (hide spoiler)] classic New Adult stories like Pushing the Limits by Katie McGarry, Perfect Chemistry by Simone Elkeles, The Boy Who Sneaks in my Bedroom Window by Kirsty Mosley...then you will probably like Somethin' About That Boy!   Something About That Boy   See full review on The Book Disciple

I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review for Stephanie's Book Reports. Banner Spurlock knew the moment he walked into Kilgore High School and saw Perry Street that life was about to get interesting. Forced to move due to a problem at home, a problem in the form of his ex-best friend Banner's father did. Banner doesn't think very much could improve in his life. He left his status as king of Benton High School behind and moved to a new school where not only would he have to try out for the new football team and prove himself, but he'd also have to find a place for himself, but he'd also have to find a place for himself in the hierarchy. Only, the moment that he arrives, he knows that finding a place for himself won't be too hard. Especially when his reputation follows him all the way to Kilgore, Texas. Perry Street hates school. She hates her peers-most of them anyway-and she hates her classes. All she wants to do is finish her senior year, graduate, and find a place that will give her a full scholarship so that she doesn't have to be stuck here forever. That's her goal, anyway. Then she walks into first period, on her first day of her senior year and sits down. Seconds later, he walks in and changes every single plan she's ever made. It isn't long before Perry starts to fall for the bad boy who doesn't care who he does and doesn't impress.. The boy makes her heart flutter. The boy makes her want things that she's never wanted before. Not ever. The boy brings trouble with him that nearly kills her. If you have read Maybe Swearing Will Help, you knew Banner was mentioned several times. Now we are getting his story. Get ready to fall in love with Banner too. He is the bad boy with a chip on his shoulder forced to move to Kilgore Texas and make a new life in a new high school for himself. However he doesn't really care what people think about him but he does love football and was at the topa of the team he left and now has to fight to get a place on the new team. He as sent to Kilgore by his dad in hopes that he would find a new life away from the worst enemy anyone could have, Vance. He made Banner's life miserable at his old school and you know he is glad to have that part behind him but not thrilled to be in a new school. His dad just wants him to be safe and happy and happy might just come in the form of the girl he meets in first period Perry. I loved these two and devoured this story and it would not be a Lani Lynn Vale book if we didn't have heart stopping moments that will have you one the edge of your seat too. This book was a surprise release and I am so glad that I got to read and review it because I loved it so very much

5 She Trusts Him With Her Heart Stars!!! I 100% fell in love with Banner and Perry. They both have their share of problems, and I’m using that word lightly, but together they form a strong team… but it takes a little time for them to realize this. We met Banner in a previous book and now he’s come to Kilgore thanks to a situation that’s beyond his control and his first day he meets the beautiful Perry Street who really wants nothing to do with him, but Banner is going to change her mind!! This story is so wonderfully written and really shows a slice of what high school life is in the world today from sports, bullies and clicks. For as much as he doesn’t want to be there, Banner figures he’ll try to make the best of it and part of that plan is getting Perry to go out with him…even as much as she’s putting up a wall around her and for good reason…she’s focused on being the best athlete she can and making the grades needed to go to college and falling for the new boy isn’t in her plan! I loved his tenacity in the pursuit of this girl. And let’s face it, Banner can be hard to resist as much as she tries, fate is going to play a hand in them coming together…but love was never in the plan. Perry is excelling in athletics was so refreshing as we don’t often see this aspect of high school life in books today and she’s not willing to put her plans to the side, but Banner has a way of changing her mind. Just when things are going in the right direction for both of them from all perspectives, someone from Banner’s past arrives in Kilgore and is determined to take whatever they can from Banner no matter who gets hurt! This book moves at a great pace which is what high school life is like, at least from what I remember anyway. I loved seeing our H/h come together and form a bond that neither was looking for but knew they weren’t willing to break it, especially when it’s tested in the most trying ways. Perry’s parents are amazing and their love for their daughter shows that when there’s love surrounding you, that all things are possible. And of course, there’s Trance and Viddy…. Seeing them in parenting mode is awesome especially when it comes to their children! I don’t want to give too much away but let’s just say, this is a must read book. There’s a phenomenal characters, both primary and secondary. We get to meet some kicka$$ people that play a central role in how this story develops and we see a love that really can survive anything. I cannot wait to see what’s next for some of these people and hopefully we’ll get to see Banner and Perry again!

The result of that incident is having to leave the school where he was the popular guy, the hot shot quarterback and start all over. Where he is a nobody and knows no one. Perry Street tries to stay under the radar. She doesn't engage, she plays volleyball, runs cross-country and track. She has a handful of close friends and has no love for the phonies and loud mouths who think they rule the school. When Banner shows up on his first day of school he ends up sitting next to Perrey. He likes what he sees, even though she gives off her usual chilly exterior. But Perry wants to get on the football team, so he might be intrigued, but he's gotta get down to business. Banner has a lot of confidence, but he has the talent to back it up. He'll fight for his place on the team, attracting a lot of buzz about him while he does it. This doesn't all go unnoticed by Perry. Theirs is a slow burn. Banner brings out the best in Perry. She's much too introverted and needs a good jump start to take a few chances and start to live a life of fun. As close as Banner and Perry get (and there's a little bit of drama surrounding them) Banner's keeping a secret. One that could lose him Perry when she finds out. I love a well written young adult novel. One that has all the biting and clawing of the social climbing teenagers who believe they are the sun and the rest of the minions are planets lucky enough to be in their orbit. Something About That Boy is a cute read, slightly angsty with a great story you can sink your teeth in!

This is my third book by this author, and one thing all of her books have in commom are over the top drama and Insta-love. Those aren't necessarily a bad thing, but they simply aren't my thing. She was just supposed to accept it and that was that. That just didn't seem genuine to her character. Overall this was a good book, I just wasn't in love with the last 20%. But if you're looking for a light read without an overload of angst, this is for you! **I received an ARC of this book and these are my honest opinions.**

Banner was enjoying the high school experience until through no fault of his it became a situation he had to escape, which is why he finds himself relocating to a new school. He is adjusting to his new environment, is the quarterback of the football team and was drawn to Perry from the moment that he saw her. Perry is not part of the popular crowd and has no desire to be included. She excels at athletics, she knows who she is and has a great support system. All she wants to do is get through school so attracting the attention of Perry was a mixed blessing as she really likes him but not the attention she draws because of it. For high school students both Banner and Perry have a great understanding of who they are and what is really important. Their interactions are fun and flirty, but it is the way they support each other especially when Banner’s past refuses to stay where it belongs that makes them so perfect for each other.

Banner Spurlock is way more than your average high school senior, he has more integrity in his pinky than some full grown men do, but with a hero from Lani Lynn Vale, of COURSE he would! I love how LLV can tie in characters from so many different series and LOVE the connections between them all. All in all, this book was fantastic. If you are a long time ready of LLV it will mean more, but even if not, you are introduced to amazing characters and a story line that is full of heart, humor, and so much more. I give this book 5 outta 5 stars and recommend you checking it out ASAP! PS: Thank you to Lani Lynn Vale and Wildfire Marketing Solutions for allowing me an advanced copy of the book to read and review honestly.

4.5⭐ This is the story of Banner and Perry. Banner has to move to Kilgore after some problems at his old school. He meets Perry on his first day and he's very much intrigued by her. They both fell hard and fast and even though they had a few obstacles, their love was strong enough to get them through. I thought it was going to be a bully romance, but thank god it wasn't. I love Banner and Perry's story. I don't usually prefer a YA romance, but their story is so cute and sweet. It is an easy read 4.5⭐ This is the story of Banner and Perry. I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. This is a stand alone book which seems so weird coming from Lani Lynn Vale. I am so used to her having series. On top of that there is an Author's Note right at the beginning. All I thought as I read that was son of biscuit eater! She was gonna leave me with questions that I would have to wait until her new series started to find out about. That means that while this one is a stand alone read it will be the bridge to a new series. It also answers some questions from Maybe Swearing Will Help(Ford & Ashe's book), which is where we first met Banner. I love just how much of both Trance and Viddy we see in Banner. His parents are one of my favorite LLV couples so learning more about their children is so great. Banner has to move to a new school after his father shots and kills his best friend's father. Vance, the friend, can't seem to let it go. Trance is a cop so he didn't just willy nilly shoot the guy. Banner ends up in Kilgore and on his first day of school he meets Perry. Perry seems like the one girl that Banner would never be attracted to. She isn't the most popular but she does play various sports. She is simply herself which is why Banner falls head over heels for her. That is until his trouble follows him to his new home. There is so much to love in this book. While high school kids are normally what Lani Lynn Vale writes abut she knocked this one out of the park. She brings in characters to help with the trouble (such as Ford and Trance) yet gives us new characters to drool over. I love how his new friends stood up for Banner. They didn't question his version of what happened. They took it for the truth that it was. She also gave a bit more Sloan but did say in her author's note that his book wouldn't be coming until the new series. I just need to know more about him now.
