Nick had finally been reunited with his son, and he was not about to bring the boy back to the city where he'd witnessed a murder. Investigator Melissa Anderson was just doing her job. Nick is getting his son back after his ex took him and disappeared. Just as he’s about to pick him up, his son’s escorts are shot, and one protects the boy. Melissa thinks quickly, and saves Nick’s boy, Jason, then they’re on the run from the shooters. As they figure out who’s behind it all and look after Jason’s safety and their own, they fall for each other. They figure things out at the same time, leading to a final meeting with the villain. This story was good, not as well done as the first Nick is getting his son back after his ex took him and disappeared. Good for a quick read Three short books you can breeze through. A bit heavy on the quickie sexual romance - my husband and I committed after only 3 months, but less than a week or two stretches the credibility. Not a series I'd read again, but the stories were entertaining enough.

I am a fan of this Series, and this was my favorite of the three books. I was immediately drawn to both Melissa and Nick. Nick is a father that has been denied access to his young son for a few years, and when he finally finds him, the real trouble begins. This is a face-paced suspenseful story, with some twist and turns, and even a love scene. This book had me guessing, as I didn't figure it out the "bad guy" until just before the reveal. 4.5 Stars.

One Thing Missing The book was a gentle mystery. Not my usual mystery of blood and gore. While I figured out the bad guy early on getting there was fun. What is missing? The widow should have gone to Wyoming with Jason.

When Nick Raymond has finally found his son, the four-year-old ends up as witness to a murder. But since someone is gunning for the little tyke there's no chance Nick is staying in Denver. He's more than able to protect Jason on his Wyoming ranch. Pity investigator Melissa Anderson doesn't think so. Well...I don't know. Loved the suspense and the huge surprise in the end, but unfortunately I didn't like neither of the characters and even less their nonexistent chemistry. In this gripping short suspense, Ms. Peterson practices what she preached at the Romance Writers of America 2010 conference, at which she taught techniques for writing page-turners (note to RWA '11 organizers: give her a bigger room next year!). Read this if you love a great mystery, real-time tension, and bold, sexy ranchers -- or if you're a writer looking to upgrade your pacing techniques. No one does it better in this challenging short format than this author.
